I haven't spent anything today either, resisted the temptation to go to the Trafford Centre to take back something I bought a couple of weeks ago because I know it will cost me more than I save. If I nip in between appointments I won't have time to spend any money but a whole Sunday pm could be serious.

I have spent the day doing some little jobs around the house and getting my clothes ready for the week, I'm off on a business trip till Thursday so most of my spending this week will be on expenses.

  • Well today we spend £3.60 on ice creams as a very special treat.

BUT we have been to the cinema (Preview tickets) and also had a shot of Benedictine each  with some hot sausages (courtesy of the Manchester Food & Drink Festival) and some bread dipped in goodies courtesy of our branch of Oil and Vinegar so I think £3.0 is not too bad.....

I think it is good we don't just throw money away unthinkingly, but we must not get so obsessed that we cannot have a treat now and then without feeling guilty.

Black-saturn, you did well to treat yourself today.

I have a heavy schedule tomorrow, and a couple of hours free at around lunchtime, when I shall be in Central London. I shall go into Pret A Manger and have a nice sandwich and a coffee. Can cost up to £5, but occasionally I don't feel like scrimping, and if I can afford it why not?

My way is, draw up a budget and stay within it. If you have money left over, save half and fritter the other half. It has worked wonders for me.

  • Hi all

This is my first post here. Im looking to start saving and have been looking on this site quite a bit over the past few days. I must say a lot of your tips are very helpful ones that I myself would have never thought of

Anyway, for someone who's looking to start a bit of money saving, I didnt do too well today. I spent £8 at a local bootsale on dvds, £15 on a new light fitting for my bedroom, £1.35 on a sandwich from Tesco's and £15 on a new t-shirt......Total £39.35

Those DVD's were money saving. They would have cost much more new and the good thing about DVD's is that they sell really well on ebay. So when you've watched them and got fed up of them you can sell them back on ebay for almost as much as you bought them for. If you needed the light fitting anyway I wouldnt see it as a bad buy, a sandwich is fine. £15 for a T Shirt  oh well we can all treat ourselves ;)
