I personally would visit a caravan accessory shop. They have these sorts of things as they are handy for camping and caravanning. I myself have a small gas lighter. You refill it from a little can with the gas and it is about 4 inches long (enough to keep your hand far enough away from the cooker) and gives out quite a big flame. There is also a small lock button which you slide across to stop children from trying to use it.0

You can get long handled flint type lighters too. They are the same principal as the cookers lighter in that they just scrape a flint which creates a spark. The gas then ignites from the spark.I expect camping shops would have them but I think we got ours in one of those poundstretcher type shops.
The people that make your cooker might do replacement flints as they must wear down eventually.0 -
In the meantime, use a bit of spaghetti, lights up wonderfully, saves your fingers getting burnt, and you don't get candle grease from taper on the cooker! Don't throw spaghetti away, re-use until it is too short to be safe. Also useful for lighting candles in containers where you normally burn your fingers to bits!0

You could just use one of those lighters with the long end/barrel. You can get them for £1, from placed like pound land. But obviously they will run out eventually, but some can be refilled.
Great for lighting candles, barbecues, etc. without burning your hand.
If you want a more funky looking one, look at these: -

The prices probably aren't good at the above site, as it was about the first google hit I got.
To get another idea of what I mean, google came up with the pictures below:-

I love the look of the giant matches!

Try the retailer where you bought it from, it is under guarantee and shouldn't stop working after less than 3 months, things stop working for no apparent reasonsDon`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0

I use one of those "sparky" things culpeper is talking about. I bought it in Italy about 20 years ago and although it's a bit rusty now, it still works perfectly.I just place the nozzle near the gas ring on, click on the trigger and the sparks will ignite the gas.
I store it in a drawer under teatowels etc to keep it dry. If it "feels" moisture it stops working until you have kept it in a dry place for a few hours.
Haven't used matches ever since, and I don't need a pilot flame on, which of course is a waste of gas.
I think Argos sell them, but I'm not sure.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -
Has the battery run out?? My cooker has a battery compartment right at the bottom of the cooker for the igniter.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things
F U Fund currently at £2500 -
They sell loads of those igniter things in Pound World and Pound Stratcher and seeing how the refiller gas is quite expensive, it's cheaper to just buy a new one.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

If you don't have the cooker connected to an electric socket then the ignition probably is from a battery, as suggested above. If you've still got the installation manual/instruction booklet, have a check in there first.
I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

Gas lighters can be bought from most £1 shops for erm... a pound:D or you could buy 5 ciggie lighters for a quid.Life's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0
