New router for Virgin Media
I have VM fibre as it means no BT line rental. It's good until "too many" devices are connected and then it struggles. I have superhub 2ac which is meant to be pretty good as a modem but not as good as a router. There are some older devices that will connect at only 2.4Ghz. I'm looking at buying a router that will connect…

Laying electric cable. Is it possible to install cable too good/too thick
Lately we have been ripping down our old brick barbecue in the garden. My mate who’s a brickie will be building a new one for us soon. So, whilst the garden is in a bit of a mess and it is out of season I thought I would plan for next year. So, the wife wants some LED lighting installing at one end of the garden. Then we…

Somebody please educate me about Mac addresses. Confused...
Hi all I am trying to educate myself on networking so I can get a better understanding of our home networking. However, something has baffled me. I have read a bit and was under the impression that a MAC address was simply an identifier for a piece of hardware on a network. However, I recently got IPTV and the way it was…

Which channels broadcast in SD, if any?
I am keen to buy a new TV, but read a thread from 2017 which said that SD signals would look worse on new (larger?) TVs for some reason. There is no point spending money on a TV for a worse result, so: I watch mainly Freeview channels and the main broadcasters (BBC, ITV, Channels 4 and 5). Do these - or any others -…

Connecting Soundbar to Tv *DESPAIR* Help Needed Please
Hi everyone I recently bought a Panasonic SC-HTB258 soundbar assuming I could use it with the TV in the kitchen. Fed up with Windows failed USB port recognition
Hopefully, someone can help resolve this: My desktop PC is in fact under my desk as the case is large. It features 8 x USB ports, 4 at the back (which I can't easily get at) and 4 at the front, on the top of the casing. The righthand pair have never worked. Only one of the lefthand pair is functional. That's OK with me as…

Can I print to an ethernet printer from a wireless (Apple) client?
Brain-fade on this one - HP 4500 (NOT Wifi) printer connected to router using ethernet. Does this router not "present" the printer so that anybody (e.g. ipad with wifi) on the network can print to it? Or do I need bespoke HP app?
