Dimensional Fund Advisers - Vanguard / iShares Rivals?
Hello all. Some context: a retired relative of mine has inherited a significant sum of money and a financial adviser who is currently looking after a portion of their investment. The adviser looks after approximately 1/3 of my relatives invested money, and is not aware of the rest. He has invested the money through his…

Becoming an expat
I am thinking of emigrating (and becoming non-UK resident). I understand that (since I am over 55), I will be able to move my pensions into an offshore bond without incurring any UK tax liability. Can anyone suggest a reputable organisation that will be able to do this for me and manage the investments going forward?

Best JISA/Junior ISA
Number 2 (not actual name) has arrived (and is doing well). Being the MSE-aficionado that I am, I'm thinking about JISAs. Number 1 has a cash JISA with Tesco Bank at 2.75%, but I'm thinking about other options for him and for Number 2. NS&I has a JISA for 3.25%, I believe. I'm tempted to stick with cash JISAs. If somebody…

To go with SMT
I have sold towards half my grandchilds SMT holding , sending some cash to fund CTF and new cash JISA .This leaves just 7k cash in their bare trust , to reinvest . Id thought another investment trust (as HL doest charge for them) a global growth one perhaps that will not overlap with SMT holdings too much . I had in mind a…

Poor portfolio - Can it be fixed?
Hi I currently have an ISA and LISA with HL. Pay in £x pcm to ISA and £y pcm to LISA. A couple of funds in the LiSA haven't done great. Fund not big enough for IFA so just looking for any ideas on how I can improve the situation. Assuming circumstances don't change then max contributions will be made to LISA for next 10…

Paid £14000 for silver bullion
I recently obtained a quote for 10oz of silver bullion coins from the Royal Mint (RM) at a sell quote of £160~, I agreed to proceed based on the estimate and posted the silver to the RM, who after around a week paid me just over £14000, to my RM investing account. It seems likely to me that an error involving the gold…

How many NS&I accounts can I have?
I've asked NS&I this simple question several times now on Messenger (their Chat facility) but not received the courtesy of a reply, so I'd really appreciate knowing if it's possible to have two NS&I accounts, one a personal direct saving account, the other a joint income bond account. Perhaps the answer is buried somewhere…

Account to hold funds until 18
16yr old relative has been nominated to receive funds from a death in service benefit. The employer is specifying the funds must be paid to an account in her name but with 2 adult signatories and no access until she is at least 18. Suggestions please? It seems banks no longer do trust accounts and can only find accounts…

Emergency fund - which accounts?
Us savvy savers / investors know how important it is to have an adequate emergency fund. Too small and we risk getting into trouble when we lose our jobs / need to replace the boiler / whatever. Too big an emergency fund is detrimental too, as some of the money would be better invested in areas that will most likely give a…

OakNorth Notice Account Withdrawals (updated)
Submitted a question here about whether interest is paid on money that has been withdrawn from a notice account during the notice period. I asked because the withdrawn amount is immediately deducted from the balance as soon as you give notice, so it gives the impression that you don't have a balance that is earning…

Where to put some money away for 3-8 years?
Guess this is one of those questions got asked a lot... Have around £100k in cash atm, thinking of moving to a bigger place in 3-8 years (e.g. growing children, progressing in job so hopefully to a different area further from london). Premium bonds already maxed out. Own current place no mortgage. Wonder what my better…

Is Inflation really Disguised as a Negative Interest Rate?
Hi, Lets say I saved £100 in the bank. Inflation is 3% a year. So that means 3% of £100 is £3 so first year after saving I lose 3% down to £97, then next year 3% off £97 and so on? Because cost of goods/services are rising 3% annually to compensate the inflated weak £GBP pound? So a £100 plane ticket this year will cost…

Where to store my next deposit?
Hello. So, today I have completed my house sale. Currently I am not in the process of buying another property as I plan to flat share for 6months to build a bigger deposit (ironically during this time I’ve also had to spend nearly £4k on my car which pretty much wipes out any savings I would have made!!). Anyhow, I need…

Reaching decisions on trust investments/Trustees being sued for mistakes
Hi all,I posted a few months ago and got some really helpful advice so I'm hoping I'll be lucky again. I am one of three trustees of a trust organised by a late relative. In the previous thread, we were advised to hire a professional financial adviser. This we did. But it has not moved us forward with decision making as…

Savings and investment apps
I've seen adverts for various savings apps and stock investment apps such as, for example, Plum. The customer reviews are very mixed with people saying its the best thing since sliced bread and they are making/saving lots, whilst others are complaining about lost money, locked money, taking from their accounts without…
