Matured Endowment policy
Hi. I had an endowment policy from June 1995 to June2020 for £60k. This has now matured and they want to give me lump sum of £40.2k. Includes bonus. I was told I will have surplus. I have already paid off the mortgage but was hoping for better lump sum. Is there a method I can argue my case to obtain more or should I…

Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust
I'm a big fan of this trust run by James Anderson. I put a monthly amount into it via HL together with a couple of ETFs I have there. Now, I know that SMT is a fund and not an ETF, but the fund charge on HL is 0.36% then obviously HL charge their platform fee. If I wanted I could invest in SMT monthly using a free trading…

Buying into bond funds in 2020 - is the world enough?
"Investing in bonds shields you from the volatility and inflation proofs your savings" is the conventional wisdom. But I see many posts on this Forum challenging this. I have just moved from 100% equity investments to 60/40 equities/bonds (all in OEICs in a S+S ISA/DC pot) in an attempt to de-risk a bit as I am retired.…

HTB Isa Transfer - Best Interest Rate Available
Although HTB Isas are no longer available for new applicants, I recently discovered that it is possible to transfer an existing HTB Isa to another provider. Problem is I can't find a source that shows the rates of existing HTB Isas to get the best rate for a transfer. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Tx

Alternative To Holding Cash in SIPP?
The thread title is probably self-explanatory but I'm looking for suggestions (and wondering what others do), should they wish to hold something akin to cash within their pension wrapper, but with an element of inflation proofing or very low risk? The minimum aim being to avoid cash being eroded by inflation. Although not…

Junior Stocks & Shares ISAs
I have read a previous thread about this but it didn't answer my particular questions so apologies if this is repeating. I want to invest in a stocks and shares ISA for my 2 children (ages 12 and 13) and have £1k for each of them to start. I'm only able to add about £10 per month to this.
