BTL for my Baby
Hi Does anyone know of a good, sensible way to get a BTL property for my newly born baby girl? The ideal situation would to be able to put 10k deposit down for the house and have it in my babies name with me as a guarantor for the Mortgage. Then there would be no income Tax or other tax issues compared to if I bought it in…

Kids fun account - recommendations
Hiya My 8 year old for his birthday wanted "a business" so we bought him some chickens and "barneysextradanaryeggs" was born. He gets up at half 6 everyday and does everything himself. He is now selling lots and the local nursery has 30 eggs a week so he is doing really well. Now for my question.... We want to open him a…

Barclays losing £700
I had an ING Direct savings account, who sold their UK holdings to Barclays. The originaly sort code and account number were re-routed to Barclays for some time but then disabled and it seems they were recycled for use by HSBC. Barclays maintain they notified me by post but no matter how hard I tried, their system seemed…

Best way to save?
Hi all, I've posted on here a few times, haven't saved anything at all. I'm now a bus driver, and will be earning between £1600-1800 per month. I'm 21 next month and I live at home with my mum. I need to get it together, start saving for a house deposit. I need to take advantage of my situation, I'll easily be able to save…

Overpay into Pension
Who does this in order to bring them out of 40% tax bracket (for savings interest etc)? Just curious... Would like to build my savings for a home at some point and overpaying into pension would limit this, but at the same time would like to do that to get around having to submit a tax form at year end for the extra 20% tax…

No interest on first £1000 saved
This has likely been covered before (sorry!) but I assume this means advertised rates now do not include any tax? So TSB Classic Plus 5% you get the FULL 5% tax-free? What if, over a whole range of accounts, you earn £1001 in interest? You just submit a tax form at year-end and the £1 is taxed at 20%? Likely my interest…

2.5% Consols redemption
I inherited some 2.5% Consols from a relative many years ago. I never really knew what they were until I researched them a few years back, wondering whether I should sell them. Luckily I didn't as the Government are now redeeming them at par. My question is, is this a good thing? Should I be happy, or given the current low…

Investing in stocks listed on NYSE
As a little bit of fun, I'm looking to invest a sum of money in a company listed on the NYSE. I already have a S&S ISA subscription with Charles Stanley Direct, but looking around it seems that X-O.co.uk and SVS Securities might be more economical as I don't anticipate doing many trades. With that said, I can't find NYSE…
