Maximising interest on £10,000
I've been very lax, and currently have £10,000 in an account not paying very much. I was contemplating how to maximise interest. It seems that current accounts are a better option at the moment than savings accounts or ISAs. I was thinking of: Continuing with my Halifax account £5 per month Opening a Clydesdale Bank 4%…

Murray International Income
Read good reports about this and I noticed a few on here mentioned it in their portfolio. It doesn't show up on the HL site. Do you have to invest with Murray direct? My other investments are with Hl and I would have preferred to keep them all together. Thanks

Clear interest free debt quickly or save?
Just a straw poll really. I have £5000 of credit card debt on 2 long term interest free cards so it's not costing me anything. I'm saving £300 ia month in an ISA and paying off £300 on the cards. I'm liking seeing the savings balance increase but the debt is coming down too slowly and I don't have that much disposable…

Savings and tax
Hello, Should I pay additional tax for interest rate if I pay higher rate? As far I know, bank takes automatically 20% for tax. I can't unfortunately find any information about higher rate payers. I don't fill any forms - I guess my employer does everything. What should I do? Thanks, Piotr

Investing outside an ISA
Hi, I have already invested my ISA limit and am about to invest some more money in funds. I'm trying to get my head around the tax implications. Will certain funds have a tax advantage based on the type of income they generate? Would I avoid some tax by investing in growth rather than income based funds? Thanks!

Sold shares and re-purchased more?
Hi, A quick question. I'm a newbie to shares. I sold my Royal mail shares and the following day re-purchased more. I only purchased a small amount. Since then a 30 day rule has come to my attention, which has now got me a bit worried. If I'm under the CGT threshold is that ok. Or have I made an error which will cost me.

Taking Equity out of the house.
Hi, Not sure if I have ended up in the right section so if not move me. My mum has her own home no mortgage, it is getting to the stage where she would like/needs more cash to hand, and is looking at getting equity out of her home. In principal I think she is right and my attitude is go spend it..... The problem is I…

Where best to save
Just recently sold a property and have some funds to save/invest. Just wondering on where best to put this money (about 10K). I have three choices as far as I see it: * Stick it on the mortgage * Stick it in a couple of ISAs (one for each of us) * Invest it somewhere - index funds? Rates are generally pretty awful right…

Fund Quartile Rankings
What factors are taken into account when determining a fund's quartile ranking? Take the example of an income-paying OEIC... Is the quartile ranking based upon the change in the unit value of the fund against its peers in that sector, which potentially puts it up against accumulation funds - perhaps unfairly - or do the…

Not being a customer of Tesco in any shape or form I wondered what they are like for saving with? Do any here save with them? Is it a fairly straightforward to open and run a savings account online with them or do they make one 'jump through hoops' backwards? I am interested in their 5Yr fixed rate which seems fairly…

Got into a bit of a mess with my shares...
Hi guys, I'm going to be honest, I've got into a bit of a mess here... I feel like I've bought into just about every single company that I either get a good feel for, or companies that I read a compelling argument for a buy. I've done well out of a number of companies (ie Wincanton, Tata, Nokia and Tesla - which I very…

Nationwide reg saver
"We work out the interest you earn month by month, add it all up and pay it into your account once a year on 31 October. The interest rate depends on the overall increase in the account balance in that calendar month, not how much you have in the account. " I put money in on the 25th October. Should I wait until the 25th…
