Implications of 'giving' a large sum of money to someone else?
Situation is so ... A close relative of mine came into some money. The savings rates were poor & they were being refused accounts & so asked, as i already had some of the accounts & had no problem opening more, if i could 'keep hold' of the money & let the interest grow. I said not a problem. Not sure whether it impacts…

Club or society savings accounts - best rates?
Here's the deal: I'm struggling to help our primary resident find an alternative place to keep our road fund that offers the best (i.e. least worst) rate of interest. I live in a close with 13 houses in it including mine. Every year, each household contributes £30 into the fund, and every fifteen years or so the fund is…

CMC Markets Change in T&C's
Hi everyone, Firstly, this is NOT about betting. This is about using CMC spreadbetting as an investment tool... Now to the point: I just wanted to highlight that as of the 13th of July CMC markets are changing their terms and conditions. This will effect various people and clearly they are trying to rip their customers off…

Looking to sort out my finances, need advice.
I have an ISA with Santander that has just lost its 12 month bonus, and I was going to simply dump the money into another ISA and leave it at that, but I started reading about Regular Savers and drip feeding and now I'm not sure what the best way to go is to fully maximise my available and future finances so I'm in need of…

Are bonuses being extended on savings accounts?
I was fortunate enough to open several savings accounts around this time last year before interest rates on them starting falling. However, the bonus periods on them will soon start expiring. For those who have had bonus periods expire recently, are banks tending to extend the bonuses for existing customers?

Interest Rates Low for Longer
After the recent comments that rates may rise sooner than planned the BoE has provided some more "guidance" that interest rates will not be rising as soon as the market is expecting so looks like 0.5% might be with us for a while yet. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-23177463

Nationwide;Amazing reward for loyalty...yawn
Are Nationwide crazy or have they completely lost touch? They emailed me the other day making a pitch about rewarding loyalty as if it existed. Anyhow, for the most loyal customers who have over 15 years old accounts you are to receive an amazing interest rate of Fandfare 1.70 Gross pa/aer…

Santander 123 - alternative to ISA?
I've been looking at ISAs and current accounts this morning, and something about Santander is puzzling me (I must be missing something simple here)! If I keep £10,000 in a 123 current account, then I should get 3% (2.8% gross) interest on that (£280 per year in interest). If I keep £10,000 in Santanders 2 year fixed ISA, I…

commodity funds - bad money after good?
I started investing (lump sum) a bit more than 2 years ago, trying to be basically Tim-Hale-ish but tinkering a bit at the edges. Now I have another lump to put in (a high-street bond has matured and savings rates are insulting, even wrapped as a cash ISA). I was unlucky to buy the commodities part of my Hale-ish portfolio…

Best simple saving account for a yearly holiday fund
What's the best (if there is any!!), savings account to save a bit money monthly so at the end of the year in the summer we have some for holidays. Probably a total of £2000 at the end of the year, we'll put about £150/month in. We'll take the lot out around July/Aug, so is there a decent one? Or just leave it in a current…

Stockbrokers charging quarter
I'm not a frequent user of my bank's stockbroking service, however was shocked to receive a quarterly fee for not trading, I did trade once according to their online statement period, but looks like their charging quarters works differently to the online statement period, you got to be an expert to know the difference…

Sharesave Scheme 3 years or 5 years?
I can join a sharesave scheme with my company, I will definitely join but am unsure as to which is the best option. I can put upto £250 a month into the 3 year scheme, the 5 year scheme or both. Assuming I do not need the money in 3 years time then I think the 5 year scheme is the best option. Is there any reason I should…

Best Account of holding a home deposit
Hi. We are in the process of selling our home. We are paying off some secured loans and then going into rental accommodation for a couple of years to help get our credit rating back on track so we can look to get a mortage later on. We want to put most of the left over money from the sale of our home away into 2 accounts…
