Best way for a student to invest or save £4000
Hi guys, I've been a long time fan of moneysavingexpert.com, I think it's an absolutely brilliant service and I've probably saved a lot of money through here, but I've never felt the need to post on the forums before now. However, I'm in the lucky position of coming into a bit of money recently, and after having paid off…

As from this week, my husband and I plan to put away savings of approx £500-£700 every month - whether this is a fund for 'maternity' (in the hope that within the next 2-3years we try for a child) or for a deposit on a house (to get out of our apartment!). Question : How would we be best saving/investing this money for say…

Halifax/BOS misinformation
I received a letter from HBOS in August reminding me that my Instant Access Saver Reward account was reaching its 12 month maturity date and that my money would be transferred to a normal Instant Access Account with an interest rate of 2.25%. I was a bit suspicious so phoned them up to be told that the letter was obviously…

BACS into natwest e-savings?
Does anyone know if it possible to have a regular (BACS) payment paid into a natwest e-saving account? The T&C's say no wages or salary but this isn't a wage payment. Also, the money would actually be being saved.

NS&I Certificate maturing - advice, please.
My 3-year NS&I investment comes to an end on September 18th. My £15,000 is now worth £16981. My gut feel is to leave the money in as they will be inflation-proofed with 0.35%, 0.45% and 0.71% on top over the next 3 years. I already have £15k in the current offering - well, strictly speaking the ones that were withdrawn…

Tax on my offshore bond.
I recently surrendered an offshore bond that was left in trust to me. As it was offshore I was under the impression, as no tax had been paid, I had 20% tax to pay (providing the gain does not take me in to the higher rate tax, which if top sliced does not). The bond was started in 1995 of which I had two segments which…
