Investing in commodities?
I am trying to diversify a bit out of cash savings but am wary of too much exposure to equities in the present climate (I have some). If I wanted to invest to take advantage of possible price rises in wheat or nickel for example how would I go about it? Thanks in advance for your advice.

Mortgage or protected equity bond?
I currently have a Mortgage of around 50K and I have 10K to use as I wish. The big dilema is shoudl I invest this money in a protected equity investment or pay some off my mortgage? I'm torn by this one and dont know what to do? The PEI is 70% protected so whatever you put in they will protect 70% then if or when they make…

A&L Premier 50 & 10% ISA
There seems to be a lot of strings attached to these A&L offers. I'm particularly interested in the 10% ISA deal when opening a premier current a/c. Don't really want to have £500 a month going through the account so was looking at their premier 50 current a/c (it's for my mum). It charges £10 a month for free travel &…

I applied for one of these online Monday and still haven't had any notice about being approved, let alone the account being setup. Can anyone tell me how long this should take to open? I'm already an Abbey customer with one of their ISA accounts, so assume they don't need identity stuff. In comparison, opened an eSaver…

£45k to invest over 3 1/2 - 4 years...Help!!
Hi all, I'd appreciate any helpful info on my situation. As the title says, I have just about £45k to invest and can tie it up for 3 1/2 - 4 years until the rest of my debt is gone. Just wondering where is best to put it? My other debt is an interest free loan so paying that off would not be cost-effective. The capital is…

Save or pay off debt?
I currently have £17,000 sitting in a current account which clearly isn't the best place for it. So after spending some time lurking around these forums and reading the articles I've decided to transfer what I can to ISAs and the remainder to a saving account. I've already deposited £3000 of that into a Barclay's Mini ISA…

Minimum Amount for Carpetbagging
Is there a minimum amount that needs to be in an account, in order to get the shares if a building society merges? Does the more money you have equal more shares if they do merge? The reason I ask is both my wife, my mum and I all have Britannia ISAs with a few thousand in each (from the good old days when the Britannia…
