Mountain bike mudguard recommendations?
I've just picked up a Trek 4900 mountain bike (front suspension only) and looking to get some mudguards for it to try and reduce some of the muck being thrown up by the tyres. I've had a look around and some of the SKS products seem to review fairly well and seem easy to remove and clip on if needed. Any recommendations…

Front lights please
This is not intended as a dig at cyclists, most are sensible when it comes to lights, however, there do seem to be a number of cyclists out there that think a reflective jacket and a rear light is sufficient, it's not, over the last few days I've seen a few cyclists with no front lights, a reflective jacket and rear light…

Yet Another Dull Cylists v Motorist Riding/Driving Thread Rant
This new Forum had so much potential to help people who wish to ride more for pleasure, fitness or to save money but has been contaminated by users uninterested in the subject and who instead would rather vent their spleen against other road users. As I said elsewhere. There are good cyclists and bad cyclists, experienced…

Cyclists - what annoys you most about motorists?
I'm not talking about the ones who try and mow you down so they can add another cyclist sticker to the side of their vehicle! More of the subtle unthinking actions that come from assuming the roads only belong to them. My personnal annoyance is a queue of traffic, and the obligitory 1 in 4 that position themselves 6 inches…

London Midland TERRIBLE
I bought the great escape London Midland deal to go from Liverpool to London. I upgraded to First Class for the extra £10. What a waste of money that was !! 1. The website is VERY misleading as I was under the impression I could use the Virgin train. Obviously I know that the companies are separate but on the London…

Peak/off-peak confusion
I have just looked at purchasing a rail ticket from London Waterloo to Ash Vale, with a 16-25 railcard departing around 5pm on a Friday evening. I was astonished to find that the off peak fare (which is defined as a cheaper ticket for travelling on trains which are less busy) is £2 more expensive than the anytime fare. I'm…

Southern unused ticket refunds
Hi everyone I had an experience last month that was very frustrating and not of my making. I purchased a train ticket for travel using Southerns online booking and ticket collection on departure option. The recommended route given to me by Southern was a train departing at 8.48, this was printed on my ticket confirmation…

Recommend me a bicycle light
With the end of BST looming I'm looking to fit a new front headlight to my ancient mountain bike for my two mile bicycle commute through a village and along a bit of rural single carriageway. Budget is £10-20 (maybe more for something particularly good). Must be fixed to the bike, I don't want something that straps to my…

Manchester Metrolink and Mobility scooters
I currently drive to work as I can't sit on a bus for the amount of time it takes to get to work due to mobility problems and at least with a car I can stop get out of the car, stretch, etc etc. We live on the route of the former Oldham Loop train line and within the next couple of months the trams should be up and…

£12 Cardboard Bike
Sounds bizarre but if you're looking for a cheapo alternative to a normal bike then consider this. It weighs 9kg, can carry a weight of 220kg and is waterproof! They're not out just yet but at that price we should ALL get one and use it for corner-shop runs - helps reduce that carbon footprint no? Google 'cardboard bicycle…

Cycling to work tactics
I’ve been cycling to work for just over a year. It’s 6 miles down a canal tow path and thenon roads (about 50:50). All flat; allpaved. I enjoy it and it’s preferable tobeing squashed inside of a tram. I’m afair weather cyclist and tend to avoid the cold and, especially, the rain. It would be interesting to hear fellow…
