Legal and General SIPP
Some time ago an IFA amalgamated a few of my pensions and moved them to L&G. I've just got online access to the account. Don't have any reason to be concerned about it but just thought I'd check if it's appropriate. It's never been re-balanced (but I'm not too concerned about that at the moment and I can use other…

Local Govt Pension - age for payment
I worked for a London Borough for 6 years leaving in 1984. I have very little paperwork relating to this but have worked on the assumption that deferred benefits would become payable at age 65. I am approaching 60 and have just had a pack from my former employer saying that my benefits are due to come into payment and…

Local council pension - Transferring out
A friend of mine has a very small deferred pension worth around £280 a year with a local council she left about 15 years ago. Is it allowable to transfer out of a local government scheme such as this? Thanks

Multiple LoA for IFA selection
I'm in the process of meeting with three IFAs, as advised, to find an IFA and pension investment plan suitable. Having just met with the second IFA, of course they require a signed letter of authority to ask details about my pension. Is this normal practice, what I mean is will the pension company (Aegon) mind that they…

Anyone thinking of retiring abroad or long winter holidays abroad?
After a lovely holiday in Portugal recently was surprised at how cheap things were over there. One of my friends knows someone who has sold up and retired to inland Portugal and say prices of houses and cost of living much cheaper than UK. I can certainly see the advantages of being in a sunny climate but not sure I could…

AVC Tax query
My son made an AVC contribution last tax year. This was via a direct payment, not via the payroll. He has received the relevant certificate and we are about to deal with the relevant claim for tax relief. He is a 40% tax rate . I assumed that the Pension provider would have claimed the basic 20% and added it to his fund,…

Reeves pensions - pensions review
Hi - My pensions need a full review after years of neglect. I spoke to Reeves pensions who can do this and I'd be interested in others' thoughts. They do not charge for advice, instead earning their income from their portfolio management service, for which they charge 2% on the value of investments which I understand is on…

Pension calculator that DOESN'T assume increase in contributions
Hello, can anyone tell me if there exists a pension calculator that DOESN'T assume your payments will increase by 2.5% annually or whatever, pls? Like many people we have small pots that aren't our main pensions and we won't ever add money to them... but the Age Concern and Standard Life calculators all assume in the fine…

Advice on transferring small LGPS pension
Hi all, I recently left a job with Bristol City Council, which was only around 18 months in length, and have been contacted by the LGPS to ask me what to do with the small pot I have built up with them. Through speaking with them I only have two options, which are to either take a refund of a few hundred pounds or transfer…

Is the 0.5% Negotiable?
I've employed a pension advisor to set up a pension (one off fee), I like him and he's appears to know what he's talking about. He wants me to sign up with him and will charge 0.5%. At the moment the total doesn't seem like much, but it'll double at least this year and so on - it'll soon be hundreds/thousands. Is the 0.5%…

What’s a good reduction factor?
I’ve obtained an early retirement quote from a deferred final salary scheme assuming taking benefits 11 months early. NRA for the scheme is 60. The reduction factor applied is 0.928. That’s much less than I was expecting. Is this a no brainer or am I missing something?
