Retirement Planning - Inflation & Growth Rates?
I am drawing up a retirement plan on a spreadsheet and finding that trying to work out how much money we will have and need in the future is a toughie. I am unsure as to what figures to use for average inflation & growth rates over say a 20 year period and so if anyone has done something similar I would be pleased to hear…

Vanishing pension
A couple of weeks ago, I authorised the transfer of a pension from Legal & General to Hargreaves Lansdown. Having been told "it will take 10 days", I logged on to both organisations today to find £nil in both accounts. H-L deny everything; so I now have to contemplate ringing an 0370 (eek) number to find out what L&G have…

Private Pension and Pension Credit

My father has been receiving Pension Credit (guarantee credit) for a few years but is now approaching his pension age. He has claimed his state pension and will be in receipt of a very…

Final Salary Transfer?
Hello All My husband is 52 and I am 48. Recently had an ETV value of his final salary pension (6150 p.a index linked from age of 60, spouse gets 50% on death) of £261,000. In 2011 we were offered £128,000 for this same pension, so quite an increase and we think unlikely to be offered higher at a later date due to the value…

AVCs
I started paying AVCs into two schemes made available by my employer well over 25 years ago and I received annual statements basically giving the impression I would do pretty well out of these so I continued to pay into them. I believe interest of 3% and 8% was mentioned in the paperwork so of course, I thought they were a…

Tax relief on contributions
Eleven working days to go. I'm thinking about putting in a final contribution of around #6000 into my SHP to get a little tax relief bonus. My employer and I have contributed about #4000 so far this tax year and my earnings from 6 Apr to 31 Aug will be about #10000, so I'm assuming that's all legal and above board. One…

Executive Pension plan advice please?
Hi all, I am looking for some advice about a pension I have with Aegon who was Scottish Equitable. You had to have your own Limited Company in those days to be able to get work through agencies. Nowadays you…

Pension with Scottish Widows Consensus fund
I currently have a pension with Scottish Widows from my previous employer. Its in the Consensus fund - circa £25,000 in the fund. Is it worth me switching the pension to a different manager? Is it worth switching the pension to a different fund. I am 32 and looking for something more adventurous (risky). I haven't paid…

Changes to additional rate tax relief
Hi I have a question related to the changes to tax relief on pensions for additional rate taxpayers from April 2016. I can see how the taper works and I will only get a 10k tax free allowance from that point on. However, if I have unused allowances from the prior 3 years will I still be able to use them? Thanks, C

Cashed in my Pension.....
......worth £1514, the tax man took over £200. I work part time but don't earn enough to pay tax. Should I claim the tax back now or just wait until the end of the tax year? Will the tax office automatically refund without me having the fill in a P53? Thank you.

£100 now...how much in 40 years?
Hi all. I recently had a conversation with my 25 year old friend about how instead of putting their £100 towards a quick break away somewhere, just for a change, they should put it in their work-based pension. Now, I KNOW that the answer to my question is impossible to answer correctly but I'm not after an exact answer -…

Drawdown or UFPLS
Despite reading through various articles I'm still naive about this choice? I'm putting funds into a SIPP and the SIPP will be my major source of income when I take early retirement in a years time to bridge the gap until I take a Local Govmt pension in my 60's. The SIPP is only meant to see me through for 5-6 years until…

State Earnings Related Pension not correct
I retired from my job at my own personal retirement age of 60 (being a woman). Fortunately, that job retirement age had also remained at 60th birthday. That was at the beginning of 2013. My State Pension Age got revised to be nearly 63, when they "equalised" the SPA for both sexes when I was in my 40s. So I had to retire…
