one of the often quoted downsides of a pension is post crystallisation say with an annuity you can lose the fund that was built up on death. ok there are guarantees and you can have annuity protection but in the main death benefits aren't great. with drawdown i gather the remaining fund is passed on less 35% tax. what…

As someone who is rapidly trying to get up to speed with matters financial can I make a plea to those who post not to make use of abbreviations and jargon. Is it too late to switch pension investment to cash?
My pension is invested in a mix of securities and property. I know I should have switched to cash a while ago (20-20 hindsight) but would it still be wise to do that now to stem any further losses or should I just sit tight and wait for those investments to pick up again. I don't want to be chasing the market and losing…

Is my dad's pension policy illegal?
My dad's been paying into his policy for about 25 years. The current value of the policy is about £20k Now, when he hits retirement age in a few years, he'll get a lump sum and a weekly payout for life. The weekly payout is so low that he'd have live to the age of 150 to get back the full value of the policy. Since it is…

Current British Bank safety
Hargreaves Lansdown have just launched a high (ish) rate deposit facility for SIPP and ISA clients. Its with Bank of Scotland which is part of HBOS and offers 6% for 3mo, 5.75% for 6mo and 5.5% for 1yr. How confident would you be saving with HBOS? The amount is over the £50000 guarantee. Am I worrying needlessly? Thanks!
