Having just changed jobs I now have a company pension plan which means I will no longer be able to pay into the personal pension scheme. From what I gather I have a few options: 1) Transfer my personal pension to my new company scheme - this…

Pension, or not to pension...
Hi Money Savers! I'm looking for some wise words.... I'm 25 and looking to start saving for the future. Bit late you say? Well I'm getting that a lot at the moment, but am unsure whether it's wise to start a pension in the current financial meltdown? Would I just be burning my money? Should I save in an ISA until things…

Standard Life incorrect charges?
I received a letter from Standard Life stating that they changed the way they calculated the charges back in 2001 and that they have recently discovered that they made a mistake which has caused an error in the valuation of my pension plan. Instead of being worth 18.7 k it is now worth 15.2k. Kind souls that they are they…

Fiirst State Pension Payment
I turned 65 at the beginning of this month and was surprised to learn that I don't get my first pension until the 28th of this month as they pay the 4 weekly payments in arrears. My query is this. The DWP told me that the payment left their account on the 21st, so why, in this electronic money transfer age, does it still…

Is it possible that Norwich Union have been negligent
Like most people I have seen the value of my personal pension plummet but I am due to convert a pension I paid into for 15 years. During that time 1993-2008 I paid in £28500 and now my pension pot is worth £26818. is that incompetence or market forces? Any advice gratefully received.

Care Home Top-up Fees
I work for a charity and I am currently assisting a care home resident who went into the home as a privately funded resident but now, and because her savings have dropped below £22500, the Social Services have become involved. She is being asked to find £77/week for third party top-up fees, but unfortunately I can only…

Cash in stakeholder pension
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to cash in a stakeholder pension. I took it out with Scottish Widows in 2001 and stopped it in late 2004 and only paid £50 a month into it so its not a huge amount.

Hargreaves Lansdown SIPP - how safe is my money
Earlier this year I transferred all of my various pension schemes into a new SIPP managed by HL. In the unlikely event that HL should go to the wall (it appears anythign can happen in financial markets these days) is my money safe - i.e. although it is held by HL I assume that the underlying investments are safe/protected…

a simple question
Just a quick question. if you put money into a pension all your life and at the age of 65 you then buy an annuity. If then you die at 66 what happens to all that money you have saved all your life for? Is the money lost? If so why would anyone put money into a pension?

lack of pension
I was hoping to get some financial advice/opinion.... I am 35 years of age and after a short stint playing professional sport (paid averagely) I have worked for various recruitment firms in the city; I have invariably earned (60-90k during the good years, base salary in the bad years) however I have never had a company…

Pension question
I payed into a pension when I was 18, until I was 24, so for five years and there is apparently 1000 pounds sitting in the pot. I haven't paid into this for years and was wondering what my options were. It was an old Abbey National pension, which I think has now been taken over by Phoenix. Can I transfer funds/ withdraw…

Final salery scheme thinking about sipp's
I am currently in a final salary scheme through my job but i want to do more for my retirement. I've recently seen information on SIPP's and I was wondering if I could open one of these as well. Am I right in saying that I am no longer restricted in how large my pension pot can be now? (up to 1.5 million anyways) and would…

Pension Views
I am a 52 year old male, due to retire at 60 with a Money Purchase Pension. The fund has been running for 19 years and has a pot value of £138,000. I have been paying 4% (in 2007 I paid £1773 into the fund) and my employer's contribution was 8% (3636). I have no idea if this represent a good or bad pension fund and would…

Equitable Life Payout
My wife and I have purchased our annuities this month by leaving Equitable Life for other annuity providers. After receiving a value of the plans in September I was shocked to receive a final payout £1200 less than the September figure. My wife's final payout was £300 more than the September figure. We both joined…

Lump Sum contribution
My disabled brother owns his own flat, but is becoming increasingly frail. We would like to sell his flat and move him into sheltered, rented accommodation. He lives on benefits, so we would like to place the proceeds of the sale into a pension, so that it doesn't impact his benefits - he is very poor and now quite ill. He…

Transfering my pension into cash early...?
Hi, I have a pension with my company that I am now leaving. I have a small amount in the pension circa £6k and would like to turn this into cash. The company will now freeze my pension with the option to leave it with them or transfer it elsewhere. Is there 'somewhere' I can transfer it where I can then turn it into cash?…
