Tax rebate on private pension
I invested £12,000 in a private pension in March 2008. As I am a higher rate tax payer, I was told that I could write to my tax office and claim back the 40% tax on this amount. Does anyoneknow whether this is true and if so what wording do I use in my letter to the tax office? Many thanks

Are SIPP Pensions covered by the government's £50,000 guarantee?
I can't find this covered elsewhere, but is the government's policy of covering the first £50,000 of savings for SIPP pensions? My Dad has around £90,000 in Newcastle Building Society and he's worried it will be at risk in the future. Jammie

Is this a good moment to purchase an annuity?
I understand that annuity rates are high at the moment (why is this?). I have about £45k in a SIPP deposit (no equities, thank goodness) fund, which I set up in 2007/8, my last year of fulltime employment. I am now retired (age 57), and can draw my teacher's pension when we run out of savings cash. Since the deposit fund…

Equity Based Pension schemes a waste of time and money?
Is there any point in saving for a pension in a company's Group Personal Pension Plan? Even when times are good. The following is a cautionary tale. From 1998-2002 I belonged to a pension scheme run by the company I worked for. The contributions the firm made were not high but it was the only way they would contribute…

stakeholder question
Am I correct in assuming that due to present market conditions ,pension fund unit prices have fallen and that I would be able to purchase more units now than I could have, say, 12 months ago? If so I am inclined to believe the £3600 earmarked for a s&s isa would be better spent on my pension.

Tax-free Pensions
Hi all I've listening to a very interesting audiobook called the Automatic Millionaire by David Bach. Obviously it's American and it has some really cool tips on long term money saving ideas. Retiring early - Civil Service
I am thinking of taking partial retirement from the civil serive at 58 - taking my pension (which will be reduced by 10% for early retirement), but cutting my hours to about 20 a week. This may be worth while as I had temporary promotion a year or so ago so my pension will be based on that. What I don't know is I am buying…
