Interest only can someone please explain..
Bit of a dumb question :o i am sure, but if you get an interest only mortgage how does it work exactly, using £100k over 20 years at 5% for example. How is it calculated? what do you pay and what happens if you change to repayment, does just the capital move? Or if you sold the house, is it just the capital gets paid off,…

In arrears over a house we don't want ....help!
Hello all, I’ll try and keep this as brief as possible but I really need some advice before I go off my head! My husband & I separated in Sept 2007. I left our home leaving my name on the mortgage and he continued living there meeting mortgage payments up until Oct 2009, when he decided to move into rented accommodation to…

Which lenders for a 4x salary multiple?
Hi, I've just spoken to First Direct, and it looks like their default maximum salarly multiple is 3.5x. Apparently they may lend you more, but their checks are more stringent (I think they'd look favourably on my application, but I'd prefer to apply somewhere that's a likely to approve me). I was wondering if you know of…

Mortagage application checks
My friend told me that her mortgage advisor has told him that as well as contacting his employer to verify salary details they also contact the tax office and national insurance. Is this a new thing or have they always done this? I don't think they did when I applied for my mortgage but didn't want to argue as I wasn't…

Countrywide Mortgages charges
Hiya, We were roped into seeing countrywide mortgages by an estate agency. They told us they did not charge for there service and made all there money through commission. What do I do? I think I am totally screwed...
This is a long story, but I will be as concise as I can be... In Feb 2008, I applied for a remortgage for my flat through my mortgage adviser, which was due to start in May 2008. This was a residential mortgage when I made the application, but I bought a new house and moved in April 2008. My mortgage adviser set me up a…

End of A&L fixed rate mortgage-base rate tracker
Our A&L 5 yr fixed rate mortgage is due to end in May. It looks like it will then move onto a base rate tracker ( BofE + 0.75%). Would it be wise to overpay the difference for a few months then book a new 5 yr fixed rate ( as we like the security of this )? Or will these deals get more expensive by then, wiping out any…

Apply for mortgage before or after moving to a bad area?
Hello, Nice to meet you all, this is my first post, please be gentle :) Three days from now, I'm moving into temporary (rented) accommodation in an area with a postcode that won't score well with credit agencies. As luck would have it, I've just seen a house that I want to buy (in a good area), and I need to arrange a…

endowments maturing before end of mortgage term?
I have realised that my 2 endowments are maturing (2014) 2 years before the mortgage term ends(2016). I don'y know why this is the case as I thought when taking them out that the dates would coincide. What would be the advice be to deal with this? Is it an advantage to me or not? Happy for any advice.

Hi, We are first time buyers and are looking to buy our first property which we have seen and made an offer on, the trouble is, on getting my credit report I have 2 CCJ's from 2008 that, in all fairness, I ignored at the time. Obviously this is now preventing us from getting a High St. mortgage despite the fact that we…
