Mortgage Lending Potential
Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows how having a pot of savings such as £30-40k can affect your mortgage application if you are willing to move it into say, a CAM or offset of some sort? Does it increase your lending potential or have no effect? Or would it only have an effect if you offered it as a deposit? Thanks

Can a mortgage lender charge you for their error?
I am asking this question on behalf of a friend with no internet access. The Halifax building society wrote to him last week saying they had underchrged him by £236 since last January. They failed to raise his monthly repayment when rates when up. Now they want the money. Does he have to pay? Thanks.

Do you have to use the lender's surveyor
Am hoping to arrange a mortgage in the next few days and will probably go for a 'house buyer's report'. Can anyone tell me - do I have to use a surveyor on the building society's panel or can I choose any chartered surveyor? Obviously this isnt any good if their report is not acceptable to the BS but I wondered what the…

Just about to buy a new house. Currently have one with the mortgage almost paid off. We have always gone for fixed deals in the past but I have read quite a few reports over the last few weeks suggesting that rates have peaked and the only way is down for now. Does anyone know of good sources for predicted base rates in 6…

Discussion Time: BTL's versus housing shortage
This should get some juices or flames going ;) Statistically about 12% of mortgages are BTL or something like that (not 100% sure on the statistics). So if there were no BTL mortgages at all would there be no housing shortage? I dont think so, as many people who want property are all singles. In the olden days people got…

Abbey Mortgage repayment fees
Hi I recently wrote to the Abbey to question my last 2 MEFs. I was charged £99 and £225. Their response was that yhey were correctly charged as it stated this in the terms of the contract. So tough!!! Should I still pursue this as we known that the charges are heavily loaded against the actual cost to Abbey? Appreciate any…

Right now I am really depressed and its because of the customers I see every day in my bank. So many are in great debt and some behind in their mortgage payments. My customers tell me that they thought they were on fixed rates of 2 or 3 years, but in truth they are on either short term discounted trackers or plain trackers…

Pension plans - How do they pay my mortgage?
I note on another thread that Pension Plans are the most tax-efficient way to save to pay off my mortgage. What I'd like to know are: 1) What are the costs? 2) What happens to the pot of gold if: ...a) I die before retirement? ...b) I die during retirement? 3) If I need a lump sum at any time, can I get it? GG
