Should I stay or should I go?
We have had an offset mortgage with the Woolwich and despite reading some bad postings on here it's worked for us so far. We are what I'd consider low income so though the figures don't seem much they are to us! We now owe around £19K and have savings of roughly the same amount we chose not to pay this off tempting though…

self cert uncertainty
Hello all I hope someone can lend some advice here; my husband and I want to buy a house and as he is self-employed we have been told that a self-cert might be the way to go. But I heard that you only need a 10% deposit for a self-cert - surely this is quite a small proportion of the mortgage, and sounds as though it may…

Remortgaging, please can someone explain?
Hello, Just wanted a simple answer to this simple question. My partner and I took out 95% mortgage in 2004 for £123,500. The property was worth £130k. We're now looking to sell up within the next year and was wondering logistically how the remortgaging works? Do we sell our property for sale eg: £140k and that pays off the…

Mis-sold mortgage?
Hi all, I took base rate tracker mortgage from Alliance & Leicester directly in July 2006. I am currently on their flexible base rate tracker mortgage. Mortgage adviser advised me that this would be the best deal for me as interest rate was 4.44% (BOE base rate minus 0.06) and it was 0.5% , if I can remember correctly,…

Nationwide Fixed
I keep a little eye on the old Nationwide mortgages (mainly cos that's who I'm with and who I'm hoping on refixing with in Feb 2008). Would they already have put their interest rates up anticipating a raise on Thurs? Only their rates have gone up twice since 11th January. Or are they likely to put them up again come Thurs…

Selling endowments - recommendations please
Hi all, I have a couple of endowments which I am probably going to sell, because of impending emigration. Has anyone here sold an endowment? If so, who did you use? Did you get much more than the value offered by the endowment provider? Were you happy with the overall service? Any info appreciated. Thanks, PPJ.

Mortgage termniation payments
I have read the thread regarding the mortgage exit fees so I won’t be asking about that here. I have just redeemed a mortgage with the Portman Building Society and was surprised to see interest charges applied on the redemption statement. I checked my first mortgage statement from 1996. The advance was provided on the…

BTL mortgage - 1yr offer
I've got an off-plan purchase in need of a mortgage soon. The flat completes in December 07 so I'll need a BTL mortgage at that time. With rates on the rise, I'm keen to get a fixed rate deal in place now but the obvious issue is getting an AIP (or DIP) - Agreement or Decision in Principle - now, that remains until Dec 07,…

Mortgage advice: a couple of (easy?) questions
This is probably been asked many times before, but I have not seen any info on this site (through the mortgage guide, etc) or others, but….. I was looking at mortgage rates and doing the manual maths (a rough calc to see how much I can afford), and on some of the values got a few questions. For example when the rate says…
