Are People Scared of Mortgage and Financial Advisers?
Hi I am relatively new to this forum but I don’t understand why people don’t speak to professionals about getting a mortgage or related financial advice. Are they scared? Or is it down to bad experiences in the past? A proper mortgage adviser has had to pass several exams and maintain current knowledge of products and the…

Offset mortgage to reduce payments
Can anyone recommend an offset mortgage that allows you to reduce the monthly payments rather than the mortgage term? All of the calculators I've tried show how the offset cash reduces the term. However I'm quite happy to have a mortgage for the full term, I'd just like to use my cash to reduce the monthly payments. Here…

Mortgage Redemption That Shouldn’t Have Been????
It's been a long time but can I still do something about this?..... 3 years ago in March I moved from Surrey to Devon with my family. Before we did this, we contacted our then mortgage provider and asked them what the situation would be with regard to the redemption penalty that we might have to pay. They said that if we…

Ideas of how to get round redemption penalty?
OK, a long shot I know. I have my mortgage with the TMB and in the next couple of weeks we are getting valuations to put our house on the market. Our fixed rate finishes in August and even if we sell the house relatively quickly after it goes onto the market I can't see it going through until much before then anyway. BUT,…

Reduced monthly rate v reduced mortgage term
Hi, I'm on a 5 yr fixed with Nationwide at 5.79, 3 yrs left. I can overpay without penalty by £500 a month. It is better to use this overpay to reduce the mortgage term (i.e. 22 yrs down to 12) rather than using the overpay to reduce each future monthly payment and keeping the term at 22 yrs? Thanks Staro

Unfair mortgage fees
Given the numbers of people reclaiming unfair bank charges - I wonder if anyone knows if it could be considered unlawful for our mortgage company to impose a £25 fee (and an annual £10 fee) because we take our buildings & contents insurance with a different company? The only reason we don't take their insurance is that…

Just venting my frustration here! I have a 180K mortgage with BOS on a fix at 4.99% which ends in April. I called early this week and a really helpful…
