Always pay your mortgage arrangement fees
When I started my fixed rate mortgage with Halifax 6 months ago, they told me I can either pay the £399 arrangement fees or add them to the mortgage. What they didn't tell me is that, although my fixed rate is 4.59%, these £399 would follow the 6.5% Standard Variable Rate. I just discovered that today (I was surprised that…

Remortgaging/bankruptcy
I hope I have come to the right board. Basically, 2 years ago my husband and I bought our house. As he was still bankrupt at the time the mortgage we took out was in my name with him being named as a resident of the property so that we could take his salary into account. We have now been notified by the mortgage company…

Excellent MoneySaving mortgage broker
Hope this is the most appropriate board...just a quick note to extol the virtues of 'keeping it in the family' and using MoneySavers' professional skills where possible. After reading much of his sage advice on this board, I asked MoneySaver AndrewSmith (privately) to see if he could find me a great fixed rate mortgage…

Is this possible?
 Not sure if this is true but a colleague has informed me that his Financial Advisor has told him that it is possible to take out a residential mortgage and, as long as it is your primary residence (live there), you can let out rooms without either contravening your mortgage terms or having to swap to a…

Would i get turned down
Hello all. I recently applied for a £5000 loan with Northern Rock and was turned down (unsure why so I'm waiting on them getting back to me). My credit file with Equifax seems to be 100% fine. My question is if they turned me down for a loan would they likely turn me down for a 125% mortgage?

Offset tracker vs fully flexible discount?!
Help please! My fixed rate ended this month and through a broker I have been advised the best mortgage for my circumstances is First direct offset as throughout the year I will have £15-20,000 saved for the tax man. Woolwich example: how to lose money by offsetting
The Woolwich gives a nice offset mortgage example: "We've cut years and thousands of pounds off our mortgage. We had an £87,000 repayment mortgage and £7,000 savings. We wanted to be able to get at our savings if we needed to, but use them to our advantage in the meantime. So we took an Offset Mortgage. This means we…
