Officially beginning our Mortgage Free journey!
So peeps, it's official. We are debt free and now starting our mortgage free journey in earnest. A bit about me/us, we took on a gargantuan mortgage of £175000.00 in 2007, at the height of the market, at 95% on a three year fix. We were on a repayment initially, but a job loss caused us to drop this down to interest only…

It's Simple To Be MF
It really is common sense really, but are you prepared to do what I did ? There is no easy answer to becoming MF - just sacrifices for long term gain & happiness... 1. Purchased a house 15 years ago for £64,000 with £25,000 deposit. 2. Saved for the next 6 years - no holidays - no nice cars - no nothing - just worked hard.…

should i overpay on my mortgage or save?!
hi, looking for some advise! my husband and i both have cash ISA's paying 2.5% AER, and our interest rate on our mortgage is currntly 2.5%. Having read martins guide, it would suggest that we should fill up our isa's before overpaying on our mortgage, however as they are at the same rate and interest rates are likely to…

My MFW Long term aim
I used to post on this board a year or so ago and eventually became mortgage neutral that is that we had savings greater than our mortgage which were earning a higher rate than we were paying. Skipping forward we've now moved house and have a fairly large mortgage of £200k with an offset with First Direct and currently…

Mortgage free by Dec 2019...we shall see.
I joined the mfi3 challenge and I have been thinking about doing a diary for a while to try and keep me motivated. Bit of background, we got the house in 1997 for 62500, since then we extended it and put the money onto the mortgage. I think it would be worth about 180,000 if we sold it today...not that I want too., the…
