any advice on painting my hall
Hall and stairs has panelled oak wood and I would like to change it to white oh sorry cream. I have sanded the wood and used dulux undercoat and satin wood paint but the paint keeps chipping off if the children happen to knock the wall. Any ideas. The panelling is lovely but the oak wood makes the hall very dark.

Uncomfortable new mattress
We have just spent £400 on a new mattress from Sleepmasters. Obviously we tried them all in the shop, and chose a medium/soft tension as we don't like firm beds. When the matress arrived 3 weeks later, it was very firm, although with the same label as the one we chose. The shop basically don't want to know, won't give a…

Stripping paint from marble fireplace.
Recently moved house & acquired black marble fireplace with several coats of paint on. I'm afraid paint remover like Polystrippa might damage the marble & a dry scrape with sharp chisel could be a long, tiring project. Any ideas?

Damp smell in house
We moved house in October, the house had been done up for selling but had been empty for 2 years. It smelt a bit damp but we thought it would improve once the heating had been on for a while.
