House sale - who is entitled to what
Hi I bought a house with my partner a few years ago. It didn't last long. She walked away and after trying to get me to buy the house in my own name she disappeared for a long time. About five years I think. I wasn't able to buy the house as it was in negative equity. I've stayed in the house and payed the mortgage for…

Hi all About a month ago Keepmoat homes contacted us and advised that another company was taking over the equity loan that we have on our property. Unfortunately I've misplaced the letter and need to call them. Does anyone know the name of the company who took over the loans? I know its ridiculous but I've called Keep Moat…

Property valued slightly less than our offer - surveyor says it won't affect mortgage
Hi all We are in the process of buying a property. It was marketed at £285k and we had our offer accepted at £282k. The surveyor visited the property last week to value it and carry out our homebuyers survey, then phoned us on Saturday to say he valued it at £275k. We are surprised by this as we feel it was competitively…

pro's & con's of part buy part rent?
hi folks seen a flat that is on offer for £72,000 (that's the mortgage side of it), so currently valued at 144k. I only want to put a 5% deposit down so I have enough to furnish the place if/when I get it. I love the place and really want to buy it, but its 50% ownership and I was wondering what are the pro's and con's of…

Guarantor - Bank Statement?
Does a guarantor need to provide a bank statement? If so, is there any ways around this? My guarantor made clear to me, he IS NOT giving his bank statement to anyone. He gets a good private pension and is a house owner, maybe proof of them 2 may be good enough?

(Protected) Assured Tenancy
I've tried looking on the web for this and can't get an exact answer (it all seems to be if someone dies or someone leaves because of violence, which is not applicable) Basically, I live in a Maisonette, two bedroom, rented from a housing group. I am a joint tenant with the other joint tenant responsible for 50% of rent…

Wading through my first house purchase....
Hello all :) Nothing too dramatic, just excited and nervous:eek: I put in an offer on the perfect house on the 17th sept, offer accepted on the 18th. Managed to see the property before it went up for the open day... sneaky I know, but I simply had to have it after all of the fall through's and let downs, gazumping galore.…

Husband buying me out
My husband has offered me £150,000 for my share of the property which is £10,000 more than what I would get if we split it exactly half. He agreed to this figure if I didn't go for half his pension. 1. Am I stupid not to go for more? 2, what happens about capital gains tax? 3, how easy is it to get the deeds changed over…

Surveying a house we currently rent & are buying
Just interested in thoughts on this situation. We are just starting the process of buying the house we have rented for 18 months. The house was previously my landlord's family home. He is also a builder and has done a lot of major work himself (so is obviously quite biased about it) We have quite a good relationship with…

Evil stench - compensation?
We're renting a very expensive flat in London, which is nice, but - our bathroom absolutely stinks of raw sewage almost every morning and every night. The flat is the bottom half of a victorian house. We have to have the bathroom window open and the door closed, otherwise the stench spreads across the whole flat v quickly.…

Protecting future buyers from a bad house

Updates In A Property Chain?
Hi all, FTB here... We've recently had an offer accepted on a house, and the vendor is looking at buying a particular house which has no chain. New Build Reservation requirements?
Hi all, just a quick question. Me and my girlfriend are very interested in a new build property but they said we can't make a reservation until we could provide proof our home is under offer in a complete chain. However the property isn't available to move into until June. I can't see how this works? Is this normal? Is…

Sellers on an IVA - any implications?
Hi all Just about to offer on a house when we discovered via land registry check that both the sellers (married couple) are on an Individual Voluntary Agreement (for insolvency). There is a note on the Land Registry details that a (named) debt manager should be informed if the property is 'transferred'. Does this have any…
