Neighbour issues
Hi all, I'm asking on behalf of my parents. They've been living next door to an absolute nightmare for about a year. My parents rent, they own. Some background. Early on there were issues where neighbours made silly noise complaints about tumble drier noises when the tumble drier was in a shed at bottom of their garden and…

Buying house, what to do with my flat?
Hi, okay so I am looking for some advice on this situation: I am currently looking to move home and wonder how I should deal with my flat which I purchased nearly 7 years ago, November 2007. I was a naive 20 year old, everyone told me to get on the property ladder asap; "property will only ever go up in value" they said!…

stamp duty
A property near us is going up for auction soon, in 3 lots. Lot 1 is a barn with a bit of land and planning permission, lot 2 is a house with some land, and lot 3 is some land. If we were to buy all 3 lots at auction, would the stamp duty be individual, or would it be on the whole lot, which would work out more?

Asking Prices much larger than Sold Prices?
I'm looking at the Selling and Asking prices on home.co.uk for Stevenage. While Asking Price for detached houses has jumped over 40%, there hasn't been an equivalent increase in Selling Price. I am wondering if this means people are really over-valuing their houses, or if home.co.uk is lacking some data on the more…

Chancel Search - Not confident of solicitor advice - Urgent advice needed
Hi, I went with the solicitor suggested by the estate agent and I have always felt like he is acting more for the estate agents and lesser for me. Many a times, I realized (like my mortgage offer) that estate agent got to know before me. For last over a week, I am sending him queries and he takes many days to response -…

Landlord charging for next doors water
Hello, I was renting a property through an agency for over a period of 1 year. This has now been terminated and I have been out of the property for a few months. Approximately 1-2 months prior to the termination of the tenancy agreement, I spoke with our water provider. They advised that there was an issue with the meter…

About to buy house but lost job
Unfortunately I lost my job and thus have to abandon my house purchase process (I didn't spend anything but vendor will not wait for me to find another job). So, assuming I manage to find another job, how long I need to wait before I am eligible to get a mortgage again? If they see a gap in my earning, do I have to wait at…

LVT Tribunal -
A resident in our block for flats has taken the management company to tribunal and we were offered the opportunity to join the tribunal, which we did. There have been several cases of poor management of the building, late issue of service charge demands and even a case of incorrect billing so one person (management company…

Question about staircasing to 100%
Hello, I am researching Shared Ownership scheme, and the way I understand it, it looks quite good. Because of this I have a couple of questions, which you may be able to answer. Imagine a scenario bellow (numbers may be a bit off, so please ignore those small errors (unless it is a huge one, so then please correct it):…

Deposit Issue
Hi I have had a good look through previous posts and can't find what I am looking for - apologies if I waffle on a bit. I have moved out of rented accommodation after 12 months. There is a brief inventory included in the tenancy agreement, but no pictures of any fixtures and fittings. We removed one light fitting as it was…

Hi All, First time poster! I moved to Northern Ireland from Scotland in November last year and have been living with the in-laws until we sold in Scotland and purchased here in NI. Want to acquire freehold, but freeholder not registered
I'm looking to purchase the freehold on my terraced home, of which I am currently the owner of a long (800 yr) lease. The apparent freeholder has been collecting a peppercorn ground rent of £1 per year, so I know of their whereabouts. In an effort to confirm their status as freeholder I have contacted the land registry who…

Residents Association problems - Flats with share of freehold
Hello all, I am in a bit of a dilema at the mo. I own a flat that I previously lived in for 8 years, then moved in with my partner and had kids, so have hung onto but now let out. It is a beautiful old flat in a block of a few flats, basically an old house converted into a number of flats. All owners have a percentage of…

Afternoon people. I’m after a little bit of Financial Advice please, regarding selling a property which I am currently renting out. Share of Freeholder that won't pay
We have a share of freehold (4 flats). It's set up as a company and we each own equal shares. One of the shareholders is now severely in arrears (they owed a block of money from old repairs, but for over a year now have not even paid their standard annual charge of £1200). They claim that they simply have no money as their…

Anyone buy using Help to Buy (Scotland)
I'm a bit confused about what the process is. Our solicitor advised that we need to get this application in ASAP to ensure we can get things moving smoothly. We met with an IFA earlier this year who confirmed affordability but although he's done HTB applications before, wasn't really well versed in it and advised that we'd…

Hi guys, An update from my previous thread. https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4955151 The landlady and lettings agent came today, and I felt the landlady did quite a hostile viewing.
