Are there nice bars and restaurants? Saying…

I was planning to rent it for three years and then sell it before having to pay capital gains tax on it. I've heard that there are some changes to capital gains,…

No Interest Rate Cuts until 2009 @ the Earliest
How does everyone think the announcement by Labour that there probably won't be any more interest rate cuts until 2009 at the earliest affect the housing market? I'm referring to Darlings following quote To provide certainty, and to build on this foundation of stability, I am today writing to the Governor of the Bank of…

Hi we should be exchanging on a house purchase today but have been waiting for the vendor to get an indemnity policy to cover the fact that an extention doesn't have any proof of having had planning permission. It was built before he bought the house and says it wasn't an issue for him so he won't pay. It looks like we…

Made an offer, been accepted - am I stuck with it?
Ok, basically, I'm a first time buyer and I've been eying up 2 places in particular. I put an offer in yesterday for one at 10k less than asking price and, to my astonishment, got a phone call today saying I was accepted. The thing is I am still going for a viewing on the second place today, which I do prefer, and would…

Renters, talk me down please!
OK, I'm having a panic about our decision to rent not first time buy. If we rent for two years (current plan) we'll be in our 30s when buying....not exactly drawing our pension, but still.... Surely by when what we'll want/need will be a bigger property still? I'm beginning to really sweat about this and I can see why…

Estate Agent fees
had 3 valuations and each estate agent quoted at 1.25% commission plus 16 week tie in. Having read on here you could get 1% and 1 week tie I went and tried negotiating with each one. The best they will do is 1.1% and 12 week tie in. Am i going wrong ? or is this reasonable ? thanks in advance ?
