Cashback.
Although our house is competitively priced for the area (180k, 4 bed detached) we are considering offering 5k cashback on completion rather than drop the price by the same amount. Seems like a good idea to me but is there something I am missing? good idea or not?

Repossession - mortgage lender valuation
We bought a brand new 2-bed apartment in the Greater London area as a Buy-to-Let investment in June 2004 for £249,950. The apartment was repossessed by the mortgage lender in October 2006. We have just been informed that it has only just been sold (July 2007) for £225,000. This is despite the fact that property in this…

We've just received the paper work regarding our buyers solicitors and they happen to be Country Wide, there using the ones through their EA, Geering & Colyer. But I'm having bad vibes about it because I found this site which looks pretty awful for our buyer and possibly in the long term for us, we decided to go through…

Damp in valuation report
EA has offered to contact a damp proof expert who will inspect purchase property for free. I can attend the inspection as well. I don't see any probs with this as the damp proof company have nothing to lose by giving me a low quote. If there is damp is it standard to offer vendor lower price to reflect the extra work…

London Market
Is the London housing market a completely different animal to the rest of the uk? I've been hearing a lot lately about how the housing market is slowing down and that it's now a buyers market. But where I live in London it seems to be the opposite. Houses sell very quickly and the only price drops I've seen have been when a…

Bit of dampness!
Currently buying a house and we've had a full survey done on it as it's a bit neglected, had some previous extension work done, and we're planning on having some further work done ourselves. Now the survey pretty much confirms everything we expected but while testing for damp the surveyor found a few patches and has…

What if repossessed?
I am going to be a FTB - just started looking in the market. I have a question (may sound daft to you though). Suppose I'm buying a £150k house. Say I paid £15k deposit and taken £135k as mortgage. Say 1 year down the line, I'm unable to pay the mortgage. Suppose I paid £10k in 1 year. I understand that in that case, the…
