Water tank + panel heating
I know nothing about water tanks so I need to ask a few questions ;) How do I use it? Do I have it turned on all the time? If not when? How long does the hot water last? Anything else I need to know? It's a direct combi cylinder if that makes any difference. At least I have a booklet for the panel heating.

Generic question
Hi there, I haven't been able to find the answer to this anywhere else so I'm hoping someone here can enlighten me. Why do energy companies still use a system of estimates to calculate our usage and bills? Surely in this age of technology and instant information sharing, there should be a more accurate method of reading…

Moving home with energy debt
Due to move home in the next few weeks, no idea who are new supplier will be but likely the same as we have now i believe (Scottish power). We have a fair amount of debit balance at the moment, this is likely to be more than £500 when the final meter readings are given. Questions i am hoping someone can help me with: 1. I…

Has anyone switched to First Utility
Hello there, I'm looking at switching to First Utility. It seems to be very easy if you do it all online but I had a few questions as I wanted to switch from a pre-payment meter to a regular meter on monthly direct debit. I've sent two emails now over the last three weeks requesting information and haven't received a…

Confusion on gas top up
I am the sort of person who uses about a fiver a year in gas due to using mostly electric heating in winter for a hour or two a day which warms up the house for entire day and having a electric shower and no bath etc. Anyway my top up ran out a month ago a few days before I went away on holiday and so I topped up £6 and…

Electric pre-payment meter confused
Just wondering if anyone can answer this for me as I am totally confused here. I was on the last 32p of my emergency credit for my electric pre-payment yesterday (24.05.2014 and I topped up £5.00) anyhow, I just checked my electric and I am confused as its states this now: £000.03 and its got on the top (debt) How can that…

Worcester Combi 30Si drain syphon trap
Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew the answer to this? The syphon is leaking the smallest ever leak on our Worcester boiler. It is only the rubber seal on the cap at the bottom that needs cleaning but to do this I'll need to remove it, which will obviously drain the syphon. This is no problem but I want to know if I need…

£189 pa saving but the same monthly direct debit?
 Might be being a bit dense here, so apologies if so. I'm at renewal time and this year's plan is to compare all bills before renewal. So I've just used the MSE tool to compare utilities (dual fuel) with my current Scottish Power plan. The Ovo plan looks like the one we wanted to go for, as it seems to offer a £189…

EDF billing
Having left EDF in 2012, this morning, they sent me a 'transfer to debt collection' letter informing me that I never paid the outstanding balance of £135 - something which they never told me about in the first place! Before I take it further, I just wondered whether there's a time limit between the end of a contract and…

NPower Advice
This is my first post - apologies if its a bit long! We switched to NPower from Scottish Power for both gas and electricity in March last year. Our monthly payments to Scottish Power had been £163 and the new payment to NPower was £149. The last payment to Scottish Power was on 23/4/13 for £117.49. NPower didn't start…

Scottish Power - home visit
Just come back in to find a letter from Scottish Power arranging (at an unknown time) for one of their reps to come round to give us an "energy assessment of our needs" for which I can only assume means some high pressure salesperson like the old double glazing days. To get out of this visit (which we never asked for) you…

Well I moved to OVO & British Gas are upset
I moved to OVO energy a few months ago for both gas and electric. British gas called and wanted to offer me a better deal etc. Now I get a bill and a snotty letter stating that my credit rating will be affected by non payment of my direct debit and I will have to choose in future how to pay my bill. My £62.90 credit will…

EDF have taken my supply
I think it's a genuine mistake but I've had a letter this morning from EDF saying that my gas supply has been incorrectly transferred to them and they are going to give it back. Fair enough but what happens now with payment? Am I supposed to pay EDF's tariff while they've had the supply or do I pay the Co-op's cheaper…

Sainsburys Energy Switch
Is anyone else experiencing trouble switching to Sainsburys Energy. I started the process on the 10th Jan and my Electric moved 4 weeks ago but still can't access my account online and I am still waiting for them to move the Gas. I have moved several times over the years but never had a 6 month move time. I thought the…

British Gas High Street voucher offer
Signed up to British Gas Homecare on the understanding that, as part of the deal, we would receive a High Street voucher. This was in January - still nothing received, despite numerous chasing. Have been told there is a delay in the vouchers being printed, yet they are still offering the deal on their website. Just…

NPower - ok, ish!
So, I've been with them for over 10 years. Normally ok, cheapest rates for my usage where I am, cool freebies (electricity monitor, fluffy toys ;) . I'm used to their DD varying wildly, doubling and halving every 6 months or so, as they don't seem to understand that people use more gas in winter than summer. Just now…

online account problems with gas readings
Huge gas bill I have put actual readings in 3 monthly and I can see this when log on to my account. However Scottish power can't, they have no records? However the most recent reading can we seen by them and this has caused a huge bill. As they have estimated (we didn't realise) for almost a year they have undercharged us.…

Having Meters Checked.
My Daughter has recently moved into a new house and the meters are situated in her down stairs toilet which I don't think is correct as regarding water and electricity. The electric meter is the oldest I have ever seen. Also The gas meter is just lying on the floor loose to read it you have to get on your knees. Not a very…

Warm Homes Scheme
I received £135 rebate on my Scottish Power dual fuel bill - in tax year 2013/14 on the basis of my receiving DLA and being on low income. This amount is equivalent to almost 3 months power !! I have asked Scottish Power whether we need to reapply this tax year and received a reply "Keep watching our website..." I had…
