Payment of IHT issue
My father has left his house to me and my brother, however it has been left in trust as his partner has a life tenancy. She also owns her own house which she rents out. There aren’t funds in the estate to pay the IHT and so the house should really be sold in order to pay the fees. The sale of the house will pay the fees…

Credits to Deceased Accounts
I would really appreciate some help/guidance. My father passed away suddenly in February. We closed his bank account swiftly with all funds transferred to my Mum. He had purchased flights that then needed to be refunded. The airline did this but the bank claim they rejected it as the account was closed. We now have no idea…

Family assets protection trust - following death of Father
Hi, my father set up a family assets protection trust when he remarried in 2013. Basically the trust names his half of the property, jointly bought with his new wife, to me and my sister. His wife's half is left in the same way to her two sons. My father passed away in July 2017 and his estate was distributed (finally…

Becoming an Administrator when there is no will.
Hello, Our Mum recently passed away, and our Dad passed away 15 months prior to this. Surprisingly to myself and my brothers, there does not appear to be a will. Now, their estate, wasn't huge, and nowhere near the Inheritance Tax threshold, and the 'who get's what' is not an issue. We have a good relationship and this can…

Inheritance tax forms needed query
Hello. I wonder if anyone can advise? My sister and I are applying for probate for my father’s estate and would like to ensure we use the correct forms, but the guidance seems unclear over Principal residence relief impact on form to fill out. For arguments sake say the estate is worth £700k including his home at £500k…

Inheritance Tax – house price valuations and coronavirus
Hi everyone. First post here. My mum has just passed away from the coronavirus – and I've realised there may be problems with her estate because of the effects of the pandemic and the lockdown strategy. Has anyone seen any advice about this? For example, I have to start paying the inheritance tax within 6 months – but how…

urgently seeking a bank to permit remote signing of new Executor's Account during COVID-19
My sister and I live in different parts of the country so can't be in the same place/time to sign the relevant paperwork to set up a new Executor's Account. I've tried all the online banking places (Monzo, Tide, etc), given they have entered the 21st century with regards remote authorisations of ID etc, but none offer Exec…

TRUST FUND ACCESS IN TIME OF NEED
My wife (62), daughter (19) and me (53) are facing financial ruin, as are so many others. I pay private rent for the family home and for our daughters accommodation at college, plus her college fees and we have no income as a result of Covid 19. We are fortunate in that we are all named as the beneficiaries in my wife’s,…

Urgent advice needed - contentious probate
I believe my sisters last will was made under duress, by someone who is only interested in asset stripping the estate. I've been dealing with a solicitor, as has the other party, but I'm not sure my guy has been very thorough. The basis of this is that despite 2 letters from the other party's solicitor asking specific…

deed of variation wording
My mother recently passed away. For as long as I can remember, she told me and my brother she would leave her estate (her property and a small amount of savings) to myself and my brother, to be split 50/50. She also stated that in the event of either of us predeceasing her, our individual share would be then split between…

Inherited debt
Hi, my grandfather died two years ago and I looked after pretty much everything including sorting out his council house that had been in the family for around 100 years. I dissolved all of the money he had in shares and savings, which was not a substantial amount, and distributed it to the relevant people mentioned in his…
