My council tax is £1,853 (am cry!)
Hi guys, Just moved into a house that is rated at band E, meaning my council tax bill is a fairly substantial £1,853. The house was valued at £235,000 - I entered that figure into the Nationwide house price calculator and it estimated the value back in 1991 to be £78,000 or so. Far below the £88k banding for category E.…

What is better: Pay Rise, travelling allowance, or childcare vouchers
Don't know if this is a stupid question to ask, but I will ask anyway. I currently travel 15 miles per day each way to work over 3 days so 90 miles a week spending about £30 on commuting £10 a day in fuel is a big chunk of my wage when I am only doing 7 hours @ £6 So, I was thinking of asking my boss for a payrise, and am…

Benefit in Kind - Staff Mortgage
Hello, I was wondering if someone could put me right on the tax implications of getting a staff mortgage. Let's say I was borrowing £125,000 at base rate (0.5%). HMRC interest rate for benefits is 4.75% (2009-2010 rate) So, am I right in calculating the taxable portion as this: 4.25% (4.75% less 0.5%) of £125,000 =…

Hi, Can anyone help answer a couple of tax questions? Firstly, my (furnished) property is currently empty (hopefully short term between tenants) so I'm liable to council tax.
