self assessment tax payments
quick question: I thought I had to pay my tax bill by january 2010. This is the tax for 2008-2009 plus 50% extra in advance of the 09-10 year. Then i heard I did not have to pay the 50% pay in advance. Anyone know which is true?

Tax records destroyed?
You're supposed to keep tax receipts and accounts for five tax years, I believe. And if you have a house fire? What happens if your records are destroyed, lost, stolen or otherwise become unavailable through no fault of your own?
