Just wanted clarification I have just had a "set-too" on the door step with a Southern Electric Man.

He claims to reduce my bills (not by transferring) BIG BELL RINGING!!

He outlined to me that they supply the gas/electirc, bill powergen, who bill me and add a bit and when I pay powergen, powergen then pay them (less the extra bit) and wanted to see how he could reduce my bill

I asked about transferring and that I was happy with PG. I didn't have to transfer and I didn't understand the new concept.

"I'm only here to ask about your tariff to see if we can save you money"
"But I said No I am not interested."

Anyway, as I wouldn't let him get another word in edgeways - I thought that the only way I can save money is directly through PG and not through them anyway as they dont bill me.

He muttered something about checking the tariff so that they could bill PG directly the correct amount of money.

As I buy from PG at a set rate, any savings would be passed straight into Southern Electrics pocket anyway as they would not bill anyone anyway?

And I am very happy with PG and don't want to move. He insisted I didn't have to - my property was one that they have recieved notification that I may be on too high a tariff.

What was he talking about?? (really) Or have I just threatened this rude man with my hungry German Shepherd for no reason?

This is an old Energy sales trick to claim the company you represent, supplies the company the customer is currently with for energy, and if you cut them out and go direct you will save money.
Complete and utter balderdash of course. They both by their fuel independently.

    Report him for mis-selling.

That just sounds really strange.... and it doesnt really make sense!! I honestly have no idea, but it sounds dodgy to me...?

Ring PG and ask them if they have any idea?

Funny enough i am in Dorset and a South African Guy came to the door the other day for Southern Electric trying to get me to change. He pretended to want to read my meter so i would answer the answer.Needless to say he got short thrift from me when i answered the door.

I use to be in the energy business so i know all the tricks these guys use, both Energywatch and Ofgem take a very dim view of it.

If you want to report these matters to Southern Electric.Tel 0845 74 44 555 choose opt 4 then opt 4 again.

the South African bloke we had come round has been round about 3 times in last 12 months now, the latest time he just let himself into the porch and through front door because my wife didn't answer quick enough(yes I know we should lock door), the best time was the second time when purley by chance I had done a uswitch comparison that day and had brought the print outs home to enable a full and frank exchange of how he considered his Southern tariffs not to be 15th of 20

I had exactly the same happen yesterday (the OP was like deja vu). South african bloke, come to check our tariff because our postcode had a lot of complaints about overpricing.

The man didn't like me by the end of the conversation. I wasn't falling for any of it. It told him that he had no right to see my bills (which is true). I also told him that I'd seen complaints on the internet about Southern Electric sales techniques, and he had used all of them. The man was very arrogant and very rude.

As he turned around to storm off, I stopped him and grabbed hold of his ID to take a good look at his name (yes Peter Lloyd-Lister I did report you). I reported the incident to Energywatch. I advise everyone else to as well. If they receive enough complaints, maybe these tactics will be stopped.

    I'm in Berkshire.
