Big Tree

Options
Hi
We have a big tree in the back garden and although it is away from the house - it's MASSIVE and want it cut down or trimmed

Is it a case of the cost would depend on the size?? Also, our insurance stated that a tree over a certain height would make a claim invalid (a small detail!!)

Any rough estimates on price?? - At a guess we're talking 30ft fir tree

Thanks

where are u? I have a mate who is a tree surgeon, to take it right out and have everything chipped would be about £500...to trim it i guess about £250

You should be able to have it trimmed without fear of prosecution... just trim it really low ;-)

But I would suggest that you had it checked out by a specialist (perhaps a tree surgeon). We were able to cut down an awful sycamore in our back garden because the stump had started rotting and it was potentially dangerous.

    a) what type of tree is it?
    b) How big is big?
My neighbour had a 30 metres + forest tree nearly cut in half last week (the half of the tree overhanging his back garden), it cost £320 for the cut and removal. That did not cause any problem with the other party as they are selling the house...

A quote for tree surgery would depend on lots of things. How far it is to the roadside, if you wanted to keep the logs, if you wanted the stump removed, the list goes on.

But if you had a photo a guesstimate could be done.
My partner is a tree surgeon and he told me this. He also said that you will be able to get tree surgeons worth their salt to do a free quote for the work, get a few to make a choice from.
    Cheers.

As already mentioned you'll need to check with your local council to see if you're in a conservation area. See also companies registered with The Arboriculturual Association.

The companies listed have been approved by the Council of the Association as complying with, and practicing to, the standard required by the Association. The companies have been examined for safe working practices and technical competence consistent with British Standard 3998: Recommendations for Tree Work, 1989.

Had a 35 ft fir tree removed last Wednesday by a firm and it cost £320, they also trimmed another tree in the price, and drilled out the stump of the fir tree.
