Sick pay

A friend is having a really hard time and I am trying to find out what she needs to do.

She is in her 50s and works part time and claims working tax credit and housing benefit. Some time ago she was diagnosed with a non malignant tumour on her pituitary. Fast forward and she had to take 3 weeks off work as her sight was being affected and then had an op to remove the tumour. She is now recovering at home but is still very unwell and not sure when she will be able to return to work. She has also now got Addisons disease as a result of the op.

The 3 weeks she had off she was paid very little from her employer, and as she couldnt cope on this she is now taking her paid holiday while she recovers. Should she be claiming ESA and HB or something and how does she do this when she is too ill to leave her flat?

Is she receiving SSP from her employer?

She is currently getting ordinary pay as she is saying she cant manage to pay the bills on what she got as sick pay in the 3 weeks before the op, so is taking this perid as paid holiday.

She said when she was sick before the op she got £100 sick pay the first week, £50 the second and £30 the third. She struggles with forms etc and isnt computer literate and said she knows she could have gone to the HB Office etc when she was getting the sick pay but was feeling too unwell and frightened as the tumour was affecting her sight. She is still unwell and frightened so I need to be clear about what if anything she can do as the holiday pay may well run out before she is able to go back to work, if at all.

She works for a charitable trust that from what I can see seems a bit shambolic.

Just to add she works 3 days a week apart from about 3 months a year when she works 5 days, sometimes 6.
