    I want to connect an external hdd

    what lead would normally come on an ext hdd and can I connect the two?

    And the HDD will likely come with the required lead. (Standard USB Type A at the PC end; might be a bespoke connector at the HDD end).

    Unless its a low power external drive make sure you power it with an external power supply.
