Metro Bank online application for savings

Has anyone new to Metro Bank recently applied for a savings account online?

What was the process like? Was ID completed online or would it always involve a trip to the branch?

I guess the fixed term starts when the application was made, rather than when the FTA has been 'activated' once the agreed investment has been made into the temporary 'feeder' account?

Thanks.

I've opened a few of these over the years but have a current account with them which had to be opened in store in those days so can't give you much help for new online accounts. However I had a problem opening a fixed rate saver last summer. They say you can deposit in several tranches but my second one, a day later than the first, was refused. I had to close the saver, open a new one and make a single full deposit from my current account. Perhaps it was a problem because I used my current account and you'll be fine with the instant access account but one to watch for

Edit: I imagine your term will start when the transfer to the Fixed Term Savings Account takes place and not the application date
Opening an account online If you open your account online, an Instant Access Savings Account will be opened automatically for you. Money from this account will be transferred into your Fixed Term Savings Account.
    This will be done either:
    • once you’ve paid in at least the minimum amount you’ve agreed to deposit in your Fixed Term Savings Account
    • after 30 days of opening the account if you’ve paid in less than the minimum amount you've agreed to deposit
  • Today Metrobank advised me after a review of my account that it will be closed, no explanation or time to arrange alternative banking. I raised with them the issue how they are producing false balances on accounts after checking my account at 4 am when they reconcile pending balances they take out the money with duplicate pending encroaching on your balance. Leaving customers with less money than they think. Check it out on your app at night. I want to hear from anyone who has had this experience of negligence, in particular, with this perception that they have with an abandonment of a duty of care. I am pursuing legal action st6muther@gmail.com

More money than sense, and it appears you aren't very well off in the first place.
