Shipping abroad

Hello all,
I am trying to get books from the UK to Burma/Myanmar without paying an arm and a leg for it.
The shipping is expensive. And costs way more than the books.
Any tips on how to send stuff abroad via NGOs or charities or tax-free or something along these lines?
I am looking into bookaid and book donation orgs too to see how they do it, and seeing if any NGOs in Myanmar already have routes to do something like this.
Thanks for your help,
Amie

I'm not sure if you are thinking of donating books or looking to find a way of sending your own books. If the former why not offer the books to a charity to see if they are interested and let them deal with the shipping.
If you are privately sending the books and time is not important sending them by sea as a part container load may be quite a bit cheaper than air freight.0 -
Sea freight is about 20% the cost of air freight - although much slower. When dealing with freight companies ask about door to door services where you prepay duty otherwise you'll have to arrange a port pickup.0
