Alicante hotel suggestion

hi there we (2 adults and 2 older teenage children) are having a week's holiday self catering in Javea this May but have just been told our last night has been double booked so we will have to find a hotel.

Just thinking it might be nice to have the last night in Alicante itself or somewhere nearby although our flight doesn't leave until 5 pm so this might be an issue in terms of checking out of hotel.

I have never stayed there before but understand there is an airport bus and was thinking we could drive to airport during the day before our flight, drop carhire off, get bus from airport into town and do the reverse the next day.

So would really appreciate any pointers of hotels either near harbour or castle which might be quite near this bus route - alternatively somewhere between Javea and Alicante where parking is easy in which case we would keep the car hire until the flight home.

It's not a bad idea, Alicante is nice to spend the day. On Tripadvisor you can find lots of recommendations, someone has recently recommended the Barrio Boutik Hotel , which is very central and close to the beach, old Town, Castle, shopping area, etc.

Unless you save a lot by returning the car the previous day I wouldn't bother, Alicante has lots of car parks and they are not that expensive. (around 12€ a day). Another option is to park outside and take the tram (San Juan for example will have plenty of free parking spaces and its 10-15 min by tram). You might also find free spaces in the street in Alicante if you drive around a bit, there are plenty of residential streets where parking is free.
