    Good morning!

My best move was to ditch my O2 contract for a GiffGaff goodiebag. I am now getting the same bundle and free calls to my kids for £ 5 instead of £ 20.

Thanks to Martin's Moneyfacts we switched our energy provider and saved £50 a month on the direct debit and had a cheque for £800 that BG was hanging on to, through the post. We also got a cheque for nearly £300 from Sentinel through following Moneyfact's advice. A big thank you to the site!

I saved a lot of cash and got a few freebies for a trip to Las Vegas, Arizona and Nevada by joining MyVegas. I heard about it on this site, and I enjoyed playing the free casino games which is how you earn points. We ended up with a couple of free nights in hotels, free buffet dinners, heavily discounted Cirque de Soleil tickets and a couple of other treats...it was very worthwhile :)

Two big hitters for our wedding:

    1. Was planning on putting a few grand behind the bar. Found the perfect venue that also did 'dry hire', and instead spent less money giving everyone free drink for the entire night (and for the next 3 months as there was so much left over!).

    2. Same as above, but for food. Kerbed ridiculous charges of up to £65 a head for food + £10/head canap!s + £5/head table wine + £6.50/head welcome drinks + £20/head evening food by getting a venue with dry hire. Ended up spending less than £25/head for excellent food, endless drinks, with tons and tons of leftovers. Plus did the wedding cake as dessert.

We're going on our honeymoon next week. Sorry to say that there has been zero money saving on this

Edit: just to do the maths. 100 day guests, extra 20 in the evening. £11,050 if going with their pre-packed hire. £3,000 on DIY. £8,050 saving, plus the venue really was the most perfect we saw (Marks Hall Gardens in Coggeshall if anyone in Essex is interested!).
  • My new insurance quote in Dec.was £254,up from £195.Thanks to MSE,and, within 10 mins, I had a new quote elsewhere for £148 on the same terms which I accepted. Now,I know its not a big saving to most people, but its a huge saving for me.:)
  • Booked a family holiday on Christmas Day and following all the MSE tips got a £3,196 holiday in Spain for £1,625 saving a massive £1,571!!!::j:
We got a half board 11 night Thomson holiday at a Family Hotel we've really enjoyed before for just £271 each including transfers and luggage.
Savings made up of; Free Child places x 2, on-line discount, £180 off from a code found on the internet and on top of all that we should get a further £26 Cashback.
Now that's what I call saving money!

Thanks MSE for keeping us Money Wise.:T
  • Finally switching my current account after 17 years at the same bank.

Switching line rental over to plusnet and getting free broadband for 18 months plus cheaper line rental for the year.
