Hidden away on page 168 is a voucher for 100g loose leaf tea and a tea caddy. I thought it was too good to be true but I used mine today and there is no catch, you don't have to buy anything else in the shop to get the free items. The magazine costs £3.70.

Official MoneySavingExpert insert: Whittard has confirmed the offer on p168 of Ideal Home magazine is for a free £10ish tea caddy filled with your choice of one of 21 loose-leaf signature teas. When we tried, we had some trouble with the code at the till but Whittard is looking in to this.

It’s available in all stores until Thu 31 Dec (excluding outlets and online) with no purchase necessary – but you will have to sign up to the email newsletter which you can opt out of at any time.

Also, if you buy Marie Claire magazine (November edition page 341, available until Wed 4 Nov) you can get a voucher for a free Tea selection, normally £5. Full T&Cs can be found here (term 13.4).

Thanks to JulieM for sharing this offer.

Hi Julie, did you get both the tea and the caddy free? When we tried it, the code only took off the price of the caddy. :( Thanks!

Yes, I got both free. It had to be tea from a certain range though, I chose one called Zippy Assam which is very nice. I had to hunt in the back of the cupboard for the tea strainer though!

Did they fill the caddy for you, or make you buy a separate packet? Thanks for replying :)

I got an empty caddy (there is a choice of 3 colours) and a separate packet of tea. I've thrown the receipt away in the recycling and can't get to it at the moment but I think it showed the 2 items separately with the full cost then a credit alongside each. I think one item was £6 and the other £4 but can't be sure. The shop kept the voucher so I can't check what the actual offer was and there's no information about it in the rest of the advert. I did actually buy some coffee as well but I was told I didn't have to make a purchase to get the free items.

I've done a bit of digging amongst Whittards terms and conditions and this promotion is covered in section 13.7. It only mentions a free box of tea so maybe I was just lucky but the staff in the shop were well aware of the deal and had no trouble ringing it up to give me both items free. It sounds like you should have been offered a free packet of tea and not just an empty caddy.

Do you have to visit a store to get this one or can you order it online?

I think the offer is only in store but the shop kept my voucher so I can't really be sure.
  • am assuming this only works in whittards shops? Not other retailers who stock their products? Thanks
