Recommend me some soft jazz / lounge music

I must be middle-aged now because while sitting at my crafting desk I've had Norah Jones and Katie Melua on loop for the last few weeks.

Looking for recommendations for similar music - there must be lots of lesser known artists out there!

In a similar style, but too festive for this time of year, a colleague recommended Diana Krall's Christmas album and the Charlie Brown one, and I loved them at Christmas. So might check out some of Diana Krall's other stuff.

I've never liked fast 'crazy' jazz - too chaotic for me. :o

Any favourites I should look up?

It's not similar to the above but try Kind of Blue by Miles Davis.

It's one of the classic jazz albums. It's beauty is in it's subtleties. It's not a 'chaotic' jazz album. It's best listened to as a whole album in a quiet environment. Could be just what you need whilst crafting.

J.S.Bach or Vivaldi.....the Jacques Loussier Trio makes music fun.

Thanks all, I will be giving all of these a listen. :)
  • For some really lovely "lounge music" try the following for starters:
Modern Jazz Quartet: try their version of "softly as in a morning sunrise" for starters, if you like that you'll enjoy hearing more of them.

Chick Corea- return to forever is also very "cocktail/lounge" too

Pianist Oscar Peterson has done some lovely music to relax too

Spotify is a great way of trying stuff out before you buy and often recommends similar artists when you find something you like.

I'm a huge jazz fan, love the mellow and the "crazy fast stuff"..

    Have fun :)
Thanks to all who post here:beer:
  • One of my all time favourite albums is by Basia, called 'The Sweetest Illusion'. You put it on and leave it there; every song is a delight. It can be background for a dinner party or just for pleasure when you're sitting quietly, reading or sewing. Find her on Youtube or Napster etc. Such a talent and songs that make you smile and/or cry. So beautiful.

If you download the tunein radio app for your phone or tablet, or go to their website, you can search for radio stations worldwide, by genre, that specialise in playing specific types of music, including jazz or lounge.

That way you will be able to find some that play your kind of music, bookmark them, and tune into them anytime you like.
