Have you shopped at BrightHouse (or a similar store)?

Rent to own is where you pay for a product weekly instead of buying it upfront. These are sold by companies such as BrightHouse, PerfectHome and Buy As You View. You essentially take out a loan where you are charged interest to spread out the payments. Usually insurance and repairs are also included.

The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Debt and Personal Finance is a group of MPs who are concerned that consumers aren’t getting a good deal with these products. They’ve launched an inquiry to find out whether the regulator should make changes, and they’re asking for your thoughts and experiences.

As well as your general views, they have also asked specific questions (you can reply to as many or as few as you like):

• What did you like/dislike about the products and services offered?
• Have you ever claimed on the insurance or repair services?
• What products have you bought this way?
• How did you pay for the product and over what period of time?
• Did you find the costs were clear?
• Have you ever had more than one rent to own agreement at the same time?
• Did you ever fall behind on the payments? If so, how were you treated? Did they ever take the product off you?
