Plusnet has taken over 24Talk

Options
I have been a customer of 24 Talk for several years but received my monthly telephone & Broadband bill yesterday from Plusnet. Apparently 24 Talk has been taken over by them. I have had no notification of this from either company. Does anyone know anything about this? Surely I am within my rights to cancel without penalty if I am not happy? They have tried to match the charges I was paying but I noticed that the Broadband was £9.99 instead of £9 and phoned the number on my 24 Talk bill. It was answered by Plusnet. The staff are very sketchy about what is happening and if anyone rings Customer Services you are warned they may take up to 30 mins to answer. I was only waiting a few minutes actually. I eventually was put through to someone who could offer a better deal (B/B for £2.99 pm) but their line rental & call charges are higher so I'm going to look around. Apparently I am under contract (with 24 Talk) until next March.

If 24T have sold the contracts on, to PN, then you are still bound under the same terms. If PN changes the terms, you can leave without penalty. Otherwise not.

You are effectively back with BT now but look on the bright side - unlike 90% of BT customers who don't have it, you aren't paying for 'free' BT Sport :p (although a tenner a month for broadband still isn't exactly cheap)

    Hi there,

Might be worth a read of the thread here. I've not been very close to the project but I think there may still be a handful of people who are yet to be contacted (don't quote me on that though, I could be wrong).

    Best regards,

  • PlusNet took over YourCalls this month. I got an email from them two weeks ago telling me that they were going to take £43.48 from my bank account. I phoned and pointed out that this was clearly a mistake (my average bill is £25). A guy told me that indeed it was a mistake, and that PlusNet were aware of the problem of people being billed both for their 'Plan' AND phone charges - "Problem ID77920". I was told not to worry and it would be dealt with. Well, despite that, today they withdrew £43.48 from my account. I spent 1 hour and 14 minutes trying to get someone to understand that the bill is incorrect. He just repeated the same thing over and over, and kept going away to check with someone else. He also couldn't explain what items on the invoice meant. The billing period is also six weeks from 01/10/13 to 09/12/13 - not monthly, like YourCalls, and the billing items are partially dated (so as to completely confuse). I told him that YourCalls had already billed me for October - even though PlusNet are doing the same thing, all to no avail. Twice I asked to talk to a manager, but I was told there were none. Twice I asked for a manager to call me. I then got an email to say someone had tried, but I am not allowed to reply to the email! Needless to say that this evening I have switched to another landline company (Post Office, for just £13.25 a month!). But I will be contacting Ofcom tomorrow! PlusNet are obviously one of those disaster companies - "We'll Do You Proud" indeed, more like "We'll Do You".
  • PO not very good at communicating with you now in my experience. Good luck!

But only if the contract is assignable.
You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'
  • Update:
It appears there's no fault - just PlusNet charging much more for me making mobile calls on my landline than YourCalls did! I have to stress that this is my interpretation of the problem - as PlusNet never offered ANY explanation! I made 39 mobile calls and got charged £26. I made 39 mobile calls in June while with YourCalls and got charged £10. So that's all I can come up with.

Each call to their office puts you in a waiting list which advises 15 minutes (and is fairly accurate). I gave up way before then each time, and phoned their 'thinking of cancelling' line instead. Guess what, they pick up immediately! What a surprise? They said that even though they had taken over YourCalls, it was only their customers they had taken, so they didn't have access to what I was being charged before - and said I should phone YourCalls. I said I had, and that the answer-message was PlusNet! They then said they wouldn't be able to tell me the difference between YourCalls charges and PlusNet charges - even though they have indeed taken over YourCalls.

PlusNet - We'll do your head in.
  • vm2pensioner. Thanks for that, but the 'contract' I have taken out is unique - there isn't one! So if it turns out to be bad I can just go with someone else with no penalty. It should be that way anyway - the government shouldn't allow binding contracts until you've tried them for 3 months.

As per the advice given on this forum .
PlusNet have a very good forum and you are more likely to get a CS directly involved by posting in the PN user forum .
  • I temped for a bit, at the company that plusnet bought the 24talk and yourcalls brands from..

The numbers you used to dial for 24talk/yourcalls, now go to plusnet.

It was quite clear plusnet hadnt prepared for the switchover properly, and i dont think all staff there knew of the buyout, or switchover arrangements..

PM me if having probs getting through on the phone (we did too!), as may have some useful email addresses..

I think the 'ccoling off' period, to leave with no cance fees, has now ended.. kick up enough fuss though, and they MIGHT change their minds!
Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
