Does anyone know if this benefit (from housing benefit) being paid into our banks, will be classed as unearned income and subject to tax?

It's a benefit not an income liable for tax - but ssshhhhhhhhhhhh - you will give the Government ideas. These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.0 -
UC is a non-taxable benefit, even though some of the benefits it will replace , such as JSA, currently are taxable.0

As a general rule, just because something is a benefit doesn't automatically exclude it from being taxable - benefits such as JSA, ESA. Carers Allowance and the State Pension are all taxable, although many people won't be paying tax on them as their total income will be below the annual allowance.0 -
Thanks for replies. Phew, I don't get much but it would be tough without it. I had to laugh at yours Housing benefit officer. You're quite right about the government, they grab every bit they can, especially from the "lower classes"0

Very true but CJSA, CESA, CA and SRP do not form part of the UC payment which is a non-taxable means-tested benefit. They are all income to be deducted from your UC maximum amount.0 -
The latest I heard is it will be but with a deduction quota...brovahelpa wrote: »Does anyone know if this benefit (from housing benefit) being paid into our banks, will be classed as unearned income and subject to tax?0
