A few people are requiring for a motability vehicle, both on DLA.

would they be possibly eligible?, here are the criteria

Person 1) Higher rate Mob, middle rate care, 16 months of award left, from a fixed award.

Person 2) Higher rate Mob, middle rate care, award for 2 years
(24 months, just started)

The scheme states:
If you choose to lease a car through Motability's Contract Hire scheme you must have at least 12 months' award length remaining.

But the scheme is for 3 years right?
so if person 1 started it today, (who has 16 months of DLA left) ...then what would happen after the 14 months? (when there will 20 months left, until the 24 month/2 years of award finishes.)
- Which will be when a renewal DLA claim is made.

Then would that car be taken back ? unless the new decision of DLA on that renewal (after the 24th month) is the same? = higher rate mob + middle rate care.

or can you only be eligible for a motability car if your Dla higher award is for 3 years minimum? as this is the time for the motability lease ?

    It means just that.
You need to have 12 months of HR MOB award left, or you cannot usually get a car.
If your award is not renewed, the car goes back.
If you go into hospital for more than 28 days, the car may go back.

If the car is returned for these reasons - as I understand it, you get a proportion of the advance back (so if 1 year left, a third).

thanks, so how would that relate to Person1, and person 2?

    - what Roger said applies to Person 1, and person 2 or anyone lese
    - you need to have 12 months of HR MOB award left to even apply in the first place
    - regardless of 1 year of 2 years of entitlement, if the entitlement stops the car goes back

To help your understanding, you go to a showroom and choose a car, the GOV / DWP make the £54.05pw payments for you. If at any point the DLAHRM computer payment is cancelled by DWP/ GOV, the showroom on behalf of Motability immediately comes looking to recover the car. In addition to the AP Roger mentions there are around 450 cars available with no Advance Payment at all.

You do, however, get the option to buy the Motability car at the end of the DLA entitlement too if you want to and your DLA is not renewed.

    Do you? Since when?

Or are you referring to staking out the garage you returned it to, then followed the transporter to the pre-prep place, then tracking the vehicle to the auction, then beating the poor car credit places who have more than likely already sowed a deal up for it?

    Just asking?:)

Isn't there something called a shortfall where you can make up any payments?

This used to be policy, but apparently now is not.
  • In general - As far as I'm aware 99% of ex motabilty cars go to auction. 13 weeks or so before your contract ends you get a letter from motability giving you your 3 options. At that point ask Motability directly for a purchase price on your car, rather than they send it to the 'block'

garfield413 specific - I'm not sure about your particularly worded question. My answer above is for an 'entitled to HRM customer' gaining benefit from keeping the vehicle as an alternative to continuing the leasehire in exchange for HRM payment at the end of the 'term'..

    - whether that applies if your DLAHRM entitlement ends part way through the 'term'
    - or even if DLAHRM entitlement ends at the end of the 'term'
    - I don't know
    - ring Motability and ask the 'organ grinder'
