Co op Bank Account

so if you ring up Co op and ask to open a Basic Bank account do they ask you WHY you want a basic account rather than a 'normal' current account and what do you say if you dont want to say 'because i may be going bankrupt in the near future?'
thanks Bella

Just say you prefer a bank account without an overdraft, they can't really refuse you an account on the basis that you don't want a full current account.

If you are set to go bankrupt or are currently bankrupt, it's much easier to be truthful to them rather than lie, they aren't going to treat you any different.

Just tell 'em that is the product you want?

And......you don't want any sort of bank account that has 'frills' and add-ons?

Or..tell 'em you don't want a 'normal' account because you don't wan to end up paying bank charges at some point?

Or...simply tell 'em, ''if you'd wanted a 'normal' bank account, you would have asked for one?

Or, tell 'em, that, having trawled completely through their website, you decided the Cashminder account gave you all the basic functions you need from a bank account?

Oh..and don't forget, once one account is opened, apply for a couple more Cashminders..to help with the budgeting process?

Don't have to mention anything about insolvency.....for the simple reason , BR doesn't actually happen right up until the very hour the petition is granted..ie you can change your mind at any point, right up to the wire?
No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......

I had an exsisting co-op account from a few years ago be it dormant started using it and opened another three months before I went bankrupt of the 7th March but during my OR interview I was told to taker the £9 out of the second one as it will be closed and sure enough about a month later I have had it closed no letter or correspondance just closed.

Could it be this exsisting co op account was not a cashminder. if it wasnt then that is why it was closed. If it was then it could be co op have decided to close it down due to bankruptcy but would entertain opening a new one when you are discharged as per there new rules on bankrupts and accounts.

Am i right in thinking that I can open a second cashminder account with the co-op even though I am in IVA? It would be helpful to have a second account not to use as a savings account, but as an emergency fund!

should not be any problem, easy way is just to ring up and apply.

Co op as with most banks pay a very dismal interest rate in savings and dont pay any on there cashminder accounts.

Thanks John, I can't open a savings account because of the IVA and only want an account to put a little aside for emergencies until the IVA is done and dusted.

16 payments down, 44 until I am debt free

If you cant get the cashminder 2nd account, then try the yorkshire building society, transfers between accounts take around 3 days max.

Good luck, 44 will fly by :)

no they were both cashminders, the dormant one was one that i had for years and I started using it as my main account in the November before i went bankrupt in the March the second cashminder was opened in the November and I was using this to help me budget. it was this second one that I had closed.
