visit my local bank branch?...Why bother?!!

I'm a full time worker and rarely have the time to get out of the office during the day to eat, let alone do my banking.
Last week I finally got my act together and booked an appointment to see my local in branch advisor for an account review - more in their interest than mine I would have thought.
Anyway, when I arrived the queues back from the counter seemed endless, not enough staff behind the desk; nothing seemed to be moving AT ALL - and, tear my hair out time - the advisor turned out to be off sick that day!!!
Why did no one bother to call me to let me know? No one seemed able to give me an answer. The experience has left me wondering why I bother having a local branch at all. It also made me realise that I'm actually pretty happy doing all my banking online or on the phone.
so can someone tell me, WHAT is the need for a 'local' bank branch these days exactly?
They seem a complete waste of space if you ask me...

There isn't a "need" for a local bank branch. However, many people like using them (as the queues in the branch may have given away). If you don't want to use the branch then that's fine, that's why banks have phone banking, internet banking, etc. Just use what you want.0

I bank with First Direct and, even though I can do everything by post, phone and internet, sometimes it's more practical to pop down to my nearest HSBC branch to pay in cash or cheques!
Branches still have their uses, especially for those who are technologically-challenged!0 -
Branches are still needed for people to deposit cash into!!!being a taxi owner I primarily deal in cash...0
