DS is currently doing an NHS funded nursing degree.
His long term aim is to be a speech therapist so he aims to do an NHS approved post graduate speech therapy course immediately after graduating as a nurse.
Just trying to do some financial planning...so would the NHS fund his post grad fees too or can he only benefit from one set of NHS funding?

Why didn't he go straight into a SALT degree? He wouldn't have had any problems getting funding for that. Which year of nursing is he in, is it too late to swap?

Unfortunately, his grades were a few points short of what he needed for The SALT course he had an offer for.
He has an interest in LD nursing and having a nursing degree on top of an SALT qualification will give him more employment opportunities, he feels..so he is taking the long way round :p

Hmm, how does he feel about the fact that the NHS is spending a lot of money on training him to be a learning disability nurse when he has no intention of ever working as one? That would make uncomfortable I have to say.

He might still be able to transfer, which year is he in? Is he at a university that offers both courses?

Thanks for the link. From what I could read he 'may' be eligible for a bursary as He would be switching professions from nursing to speech therapy...
I'll get him to talk to the folks at uni...

Ouch...well, to be honest we don't know that he will never work as a LD nurse. He really enjoys the course and the placements and it may be that he works as a nurse for some time before moving on the speech therapy. ( It was his volunteering with LD kids which first sparked the speech therapy interest. He finds there is an overlap with LD and Speech Therapy)
He is open minded about his future; he might be a nurse all his life, but he might choose to develop himself further.. All with the aim of working to improve the experience of people who have communication problems. So his nursing training and experience will always be of relevance.

Just think that he is lucky not to be a member of the Ambulance Service wanting to upgrade to Paramedic - my son is accepted for a course this year. The NHS does NOT fund at all for Paramedics. He has to leave the service, fully fund himself - and then re-apply when his course is finished - that is a real incentive isn't it ?

Would he be willing to move to a different area? Some Trusts do provide funding for technicians (and call centre staff) to train as paramedics.
