Anti Virus No No

This is odd. Just done a re stall of XP. Got essential drivers working . However attempting to install an anti virus was impossible. Tried mant free ones, yet each time it came to the download the page could not be found. Also tried online stuff like House Call, again no luck. Nor would it allow any spyware removers to be installed. Any suggestions please ?

What was the original problem - why did you reinstall?
Can you use another computer and CD or USB drive to transfer an AV setup/installer file?
Out of interest, what do you see here on the problem pc?

(If you can't see the AV ones it doesn't necessarily follow that you're infected with conficker)0 -
It does seem that I am not infected. I reinstated the OS as the system was crashing a lot.0

Where are you update/service pack wise?
Have you installed sp3 yet?

If not download/install that and try again.

I always put a FW and AV on before doing the updates.
Cant think of the name of it now, But heard too many people moaning they did a clean install and got infected whilst doing updates.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
sounds like you havent got the service packs on... same thing happened to me over the weekend... couldnt even do windows update until i installed sp2.. download the service packs from the microsoft website and you should be fine...0

I concur about Service Packs. I'm sure all AV's require SP2 for XP, and most will require SP3.
I spent ages trying to get Kaspersky to install on an old PC until I realised it was only running XP SP2, as the owner had turned off auto-updates a few years back 'because it kept updating'. Doh!No free lunch, and no free laptop0
