Hi,

Me and my girlfriend, both 23, are looking to go abroad for our first holiday abroad together.

Ideally we would like time to relax on a beach a couple of days, sightsee on the other days and prefer bars and restaurants to clubbing...

Could anybody share any ideas or recommendations for places to go?

I've been Ibiza, Majorca, Minorca, Rhodes, Thailand and the USA already and would like to visit difference place...we both like the idea of somewhere in Europe for the week. Parents and family friends have recommended South of France or Rome?

Thanks in advance.

  • Tenerife? You can avoid the more touristy areas if you like. A bit more lively on the island are Los Cristiaanos, Costa Adeje and Playa Las Americas, however if you fancy a slightly quieter week, try Los Gigantes (a very nice small village) , Peurto de la Cruz (just try to avoid high rises there, they're all in one ugly estate of the outskirts) or Playa de la Arena. All have some nice bars and restaurants and are a bit quieter.

I would recommend Greece, somewhere like Santorini or Corfu..., Gran Canaria, or Mainland Spain, somewhere like Seville twinned with Costa De La Luz.
    Happy :)
  • How about Istanbul, mix of cultures and plenty to see and do.

Rome, or that area of Italy could be a good option for you.

If you're not worried about beaches and want a more romantic holiday, why not try Brugge, Brussels & Ghent?

staying at the playa de las americas end, (not near the clubbing area) but there is a very upmarket area called the safari centre, with lovely high class cocktail bars, and clubs that are open till late, (again not the clubbing area, unless your looking for that)

you would be near the nice las vistas beach, behind this is the san telmo area, which has lovely restaurants for a nice meal at night, overlooking the sea.

you can walk for miles, along the costal road, or get the bus to another resort.

there's siam park wonderful water park with great rides. jungle park a great zoo.

Plus flights to tenerife can be cheap with all the budjet airlines flying there, and only a 20 min taxi transfer.
Take the little yellow google man for a walk around the area. x

Thank you, we've been scouring the internet for ideas and now considering Rome for a long weekend for 3/4 nights in late June and elsewhere in September for a week :).

How about Crete? Theres a wide variety of places to stay that are all different and aimed at different people. Koutouloufari is a village above hersonissos that is crammed with the best restaurants on the island, while if you want more of a nightlife, Hersonnisos has it all. And if you really wanted the club 18-30 deal for 1 night Malia is a little way down the coast (best avoided unless you're in the inbetweeners film!). Many islanders visit koutouloufari and its neighbouring village Piscopania when they want to go out for a nice meal.
If you fancy further afield and a bit different have you considered a beack and safari holiday to Kenya or Tanzania?
Rome is lovely, even more so if you love Roman history - if you visit try not to miss Domus Aurea, Nero's golden house. its a great piece of history.
    Wherever you go, have fun!

Kefalonia in Greece is a lovely island, you can rent a car and visit different villages and beaches.

    Venice, Rome?
